I shouldn't have to fight so hard to make my case. I am forthright and honest. Unfortunately these boards are flush with people that think they are empowered to reprimand someone. I never made excuses I was using my experience to let someone who might be against the wall make a move to preserve their career. As for bigdog or whatever his name is. Its all self righteous until he messes up and his company ruins his career with their marks. If you ask me a driver shouldn't be out because he made a few mistakes that cost maybe a few hundred bucks a piece. To those who think otherwise like I said its all fun and games until something happens to you. If it does quit before they can fire you so you can go on with your career.
And not4hire I never said it wasn't my fault. I take responsibility for my time on the road but taking responsibility doesn't mean I deserve to be blackballed. I am still driving so you know just not over the road and for a very small company. NOT a single accident of any kind. Going on a year and half with them. No benefits so it sucks a little but the pay is decent.
I don't understand. If you've been driving for a year and a half, what's the issue? Keep on going . The Dac has to clear after 7 years. Then you'll be home free. I don't drive OTR anymore. I don't want to go back. I drive Approx 600 miles a day. Then I go home. I get paid a heck of a lot more than I ever got OTR. Believe it or not an accident is experience. If your driving , keep on going. Be safe
I wouldn't even worry about it then. Those big companies aren't as great as they'd like everyone to think. Just keep on rollin, you'll make it through.
Ok so the DOT versus non DOT marks on my record. The first was a DOT accident on my trainer truck. Guilty as charged. Then I hit a fence post turning into a shipper. Guilty. I wasn't watching the trailer. The third was a low flying power line that was mickey moused on the post in the entry way to a final. Late at night with no lighting. Of course I'm pegged with that but really that power line shouldn't be up there that low where trucks pass through all the time. The third non DOT was damage to a concrete curb at a motel. So now that the non severe nature of the non DOT incidences has been stated anyone thinking of rebutting by giving examples like hitting a low bridge can go somewhere else. The accidents are not keeping me from getting a driving job. Its those 3 damning words on my dac report. If not for that I would still be trucking with probably a better company than the one that termed me.
If i was a betting man, i would say he pulled his tandems over the curb and cracked them or sunk them. Do I get a cookie????
It's not really what he did in that case, it's how he got caught at it. The power line is total ########. I've ripped one of those down with no repercussions whatsoever. It is 100% on the power company to hang those lines over 15 feet. If they get ripped down by a 13 foot truck, that is their fault. As for a curb, you mean that curb that's been run over several hundred times in the last ten years? Yeah, totally my fault. Haha, no. A fence post? Pay for it and roll on. Counting that against your record is re-tarded. He's got one incident the way I see it. Not only did he own up to that one, but all of them. Blackballing is totally undeserved and the ones that did it are scum.
Thanks man it means a lot to me to finally have someone who sees it exactly the way I see it. The fence post yes I should have just paid the guy a few hundred bucks to keep him from calling my company. The curb was at a motel and actually the motel manager watched me and directed me. See my APU had not been working right at all and so "MY COMPANY" had to assign me motels every night. They only did business with motels that had truck parking and supposedly this one did. And yes I called up every motel they sent me to to verify. Its a small town with no street lights in NC when I called they said yes the do have truck parking for one truck. Turns out its not really a viable truck spot. To get parked safely the manager told me he didn't care about the curb or anything just didn't want me to hit his building. Didn't hit the building so all was fine and good so I thought. There was no issue I kept driving for over a month and that guy decided he did want his concrete curb fixed. So he goes ahead with the report. I went on vacation. They termed me after that. If my FM had been my bud he could have told me that they were planning on terming me and that a resignation would look a whole lot better. Everyone I describe my situation to usually says the same thing. Most people that know me agree that as far as they are concerned I have one accident and that one is almost 5 years old.
