Maybe call the DOT and just ask them what the current requirements are; and maybe your home-state enforcement folks also.

When I started it was your trade name (don't remember if it included your 'personal' name if you were doing a dba), your DOT (and at that time ICC) number, also any intrastate authority numbers, and your base of operation location; also some reg about it being legible and clear to be read from some certain distance. ICC gone, and I think location is no longer required.

I've got my own authority, but as I understand you have to display the name and numbers of whomever the authority is that you run under, your own or someone you lease on to. I think it is OK to use your business name as something extra if you like.

I have never displayed VIN, empty weight, GVWR or 'fire ext. inside'.

The name on your truck has to match your full legal name as filed with your DOT number. Just got a ticket for not having the full name on my truck...thee word company and just listed the first word on the truck which is what everyone knows us by. It was a $75 ticket, non moving violation, no DAC points or CSA points...soo, just paid the fine and went on our merry way with no intention of listing the whole company name cuz we are a private carrier and the rest of the name will scream "steal me" or "break into me"!...I await the next fine!

My truck is titled to me, but I have a dba on it with the company name. My dot, mc and ucr are all in company name. Ifta shows my name and dba. As long as you have the dba and the full name of dba on truck you're good. No, you don't have to put the letters dba on the truck.

    hope this helps

    Iron-Man and EZX1100 Thank this.

If you had to have the name thats on the title put on the door, there would be lots of ex-wives names on the interstate.

**Sidenote** I once saw on the back of a truck "working to support my ex-wifes new boyfriend".

your authority will be listed like this robert jones d/b/a jones truck lines , you would simply put jones truck lines along with the usdot number on the doors . honestly it aint complicated at all.

you can add the city if you like.

and as far as the vin # a few states require that.

but jeez this aint rocket science, if a decision such as this causes so much consternation , imagine what a big decision will entail.

and you dont HAVE to register tradenames or anything, you can do a search at the usdot site and there are hundreds of jones trucking and smith trucking , and wilson trucking etc.

very rarely will someone have a name trademarked
