You sound like you're in MY neck of the woods; I live in Morrow County, and our family used to farm. Another branch of our family had a junk-yard and an excavating company, also. Unfortunately, I AM the older generation of my family anymore. My mother sold the farm when my father died. I was only 13 at the time, or I would have had my say otherwise!
Best of luck to ya, man. Follow your dreams.

Good luck but remember this isn't a job, it is a profession and if you take it as such, you can go anywhere you want to --->> meaning you can work any job you want to.G13Tomcat Thanks this.

Your were a slave that got paid when you worked.
The first time you sit 10 hours at a customer
Thru no fault of your own waiting to get loaded
For free, you'll know what a slave really feels like.
And that can happen a couple times a week.
Couple months out here and your gonna change
Your tune. Driving is the easy part. It's all the other
Stuff that we complain about.Boattlebot Thanks this. -
First of the Seventh is also no more.

I don't know why, how, or when getting a CDL meant an instant sunshine enema.
That "driver shortage" thing is just the first in a long line of BS that truck drivers have to deal with. Apparently, new drivers entering the industry have not come to terms with that fact and are still smitten with the grandiose hopes that schools and recruiters drill in their heads about buying into a career and skill "that is in demand."
Trucking and truckers have always had this rough image and that is not without reason.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Trucking is like the military. If you don't love it or ain't tough, you ain't gunna last long. It's not a glam job. It's every bit as demanding as the hardest of labor jobs out there.strollinruss, diesel drinker and G13Tomcat Thank this.

It is that. Which is perhaps one reason that they like to hire veterans. We have proven that we have the discipline to take it, with a minimum of complaints or demands.
Which is another way of saying that we have been conditioned to accept abuse and working conditions that would result in lawsuits and labor union disputes, if the rest of the workforce had to tolerate them. We're workhorses that are already broken and docile.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
You'll Find a lot of people/Pi.. and Moan about driving, but, they keep doing it.Why,because,it pays more than the local BK lounge, and theyre too old to do physical labor at a steel plant.

You what giver hell!
If this is something you want to do giver, don't ever be afraid to broaden your horizons.
The areas and industries a truck can take you is awesome.
Take myself I'm a mixed farm so to speak, forestry farming, custom harvesting and oilfield. All revolves around trucks.
Do your best to not get in a rut and stay positive.
Nothing against the ladies and gents that aren't able....sometimes the opportunities may not be in their area.
