You are trained to pre plan. Weight/balance. Fuel. Weather. Temps. Reserves, Density and so much more. If 1/10th that discipline was shown by most truckers the industry would flourish and the pay would be more. And it is just as much the planners/dispatchers as the drivers although they carry a lot of the blame. Drugs and alcohol have no place around professionals doing their job. Unless you work for Northwest of course.

Ok everyone I just confromaiton from Mr.Russell that I'll be going to Dallas,Tx on the 15th of August to begin my schooling. Im from morgantown,wv and will be on a 2 day bus ride from here. I am a little excited about this because i've waited a long time to do this. I am a little concered about going to the schooling though because i've never driven a standard before. I do have some questions though like.
How are instuctors like? Are our OTR traniers mostly company or owner ops?
How much driving do our traniers give us when were on the road?
Do we take the trucks home or park it in a terminal, if a terminal where is the cloesest one to me?
What kind of trucks will I be driving as an company driver?
If anyone can give a little insitght it would greatful. thank you all and be safe out on the road. -
take a plane, look at there web site, click on terminals and equipment
-
Equipment right now is a toss up. They are replacing the fleet of 07s with mostly 2011 cascadias with some international prostars out there. There are also some 09 frieghtlighner centuries.
Trainers are split with company and owner ops.
Training is decent. Driving time when in otr training at first is u(for 90% of the time, trainer may drive a bit to get a little stress off ya) till u are good enough to be left on your own.
I think I got most your questions. If I didn't I will make a new post un a minute. -
Terminal wise don't take this as fact it is what I think I was told, I was very tired when I was told but if u live within 100 miles u have to park at the terminal but if you are within 50 miles u can bobtail home. The second part is a little wired to me so
-
It might not be right but I am really sure about the first part. About 90% sure. Sorry for the multiple posts, smart phone is acting realtime stupid right now.
-
Thank-You rennecktigger for all of the infomation. The terminal thing is a little weird. I am really looking forword to going school in dallas (not in the heat though). Are you driving for ffe right now and are you a trainer.
-
as far as the terminal thing thank you very much. Im still a little confeused because the cloest terminal is about 8 hours away. in northwest pa
-
Then u will take her, trailer an all, home or to a nearby truckstop. I am in the otr part of training right now in my third week.
