Nvidia announces next generation of GPUs called the RTX 30XX series. Faster than the 2080ti at less then half the price. Very aggressive move this time for sure.
The GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 are Nvidia's 'greatest generational leap ever'

This is why we need competent competition. They never would have put out this kind of release if they weren't scared of what AMD might have up its sleeves. I'm currently waiting for the RDNA2 announcement.Wasted Thyme and Dieselboss Thank this.

Perfect timing, i'm eagerly awaiting Sapphire Rapids for my next build. Looks like it'll be an RTX3090 SLI box.

I agree. If it weren't for the consistent efforts of AMD in both the GPU and the CPU markets then Nvidia and Intel would charge $3000 for parts... So they better have a plan against this new series because this is not a step forward - it is a leap.
-
Some people are guessing that the "leap" is really just Nvidia showing their hand and they were sandbagging before.Dieselboss and Wasted Thyme Thank this.

Exactly, I thought the same . Well the 3070 at $499 is in my wheel house and its supposed to be faster than the 2080ti unless AMD pulls some magic . I remember when Voodoo was a contender , I was playing Half-life and Tribes , Need for speed Hot Pursuit on my Voodoo card and I thought It couldn't get any better haha

Wait until the reviews are out to verify nvidia numbers before a purchase. So far, yes it looks good, but they always have a habit of hyping up numbers that don't mean much of anything.
I have a 1080ti and I'm of course gonna wait until reviews are out, but even then, limited stock for the first 2-3 months are going to make me wait. But if the rumors are true, there is a LOT more variations coming out in the near future. So I'm gonna hope that they make a 3080 with 16 or 20GB Vram.
Plus the water cooled variants from Colorful look very nice, since I no longer want to do a custom loop.Dieselboss and Tb0n3 Thank this. -
1080ti is still a beast of a card. I had one one until I overpaid for a 2080ti. My philosophy with building gaming rigs for over 25 years is to only upgrade when there is a game or app that is bogging your hardware down to an unacceptable level. Crysis and Far Cry have both forced me to get GPUs in the past, Lol. If you are gaming at 1080p your 1080-ti still has a lot of mileage. I went to 1440p / 144hz a while back and that cause me to spend the bigger bucks. And I am staying at 1440p / 144hz for a while. 4K or 8K will want those bigger GPUs for sure tho.danny23tx Thanks this.

I have a
l have always been a budget builder but Im not waiting to pull the trigger on this Gen of cards . Gonna scoop me up a 3080 or a 3070 along with a new PSU and maybe even a new monitor . Im actually pretty excited for these new cards lets hope the Benchmarks fall in line with what the experts are saying .Dieselboss Thanks this. -
Yes, if they perform like they say then the hype is real. Very likely a supply issue for a while with the price gouger schmucks selling them at double MSRP at first.
