Hmm I think the Western Star may the only American truck I've never driven. They look great though. I agree with your argument... I like to use a wire brush and keep the cam locks oiled on my trailers. If I really can't get them locked, I'll give them a little tap with a small rubber mallet. I've seen other drivers use some big hammers though! No need for that.

Part of the issue at that plant is the fact that it's a portable plant that has become permanent. It was originally set up for a specific road project, never taken down, and the owners figured they may as well keep it there. They have a small silo and a pig for cement. The pig is right next to where the mixers load, and the hose from the pig to the silo (which is also the hose we use when going into the silo) is exposed to all the water when they wash the plant and the trucks down. It it the poorest layout imaginable. So the other drivers get frustrated, start beating on things, and have it all screwed up.

But it's also my favorite place, as there's nobody around when I'm there, and they let me do what I want. I've jumped in their loader and moved snow in the winter a few times while I was unloading. Just a fun place most times.

Gotcha. Yea I hear that. Once things start getting let go people stop caring and abuse equipment. I too don't deal with much... I work at night so I'm by myself when all the mixers are parked.

We don't trade them. They get passed down to the newer guys. Once they hit a million miles, they get sold to the local farmers and logging outfits. This truck is only 4 years old with only 311000 miles. But we have a few trucks that need to go. And the guy ahead of me in seniority doesn't want another new truck, because this may be his last year

I'd take a glider with a fresh Cat and a 13-speed over just about any other combination out there, especially anything with a Detroit and an autoshift.

What were you hauling? I like that green tank. Looks a lot better than my old cement coated trailers.
