One of my biggest worries are not being able to stop for a shower every evening.I'm aware that may sound ridiculous, but let me be real here.. it would be a nightmare not smelling good. LOL.

How long does one actually train with a trainer?

    Don't sweat it
After six months you'll have trouble remembering when you had your last shower.
Don't go with a company that only uses Loves for fuel or you'll never get a shower.
There's nothing quite like looking up at the Loves shower board, seeing 57, then looking at your ticket which says 89

It's not uncommon to shower every other day when working OTR. Over the road is a scummy profession, there is no way to sugar coat it. Have you ever smelled some of these drivers? Are you prepared to be gone from home weeks at a time and walking a quarter of a mile to use the truck stop restroom in the middle of the night? Do yourself a big favor and try looking for a local job after you finish school. You'll make more money and have a tolerable lifestyle. I don't know where you live but YRC Freight is currently hiring new CDL holders in Chicago. Perhaps there is a terminal by your house?

You can shower every day. Let it be known from the beginning; tell the trainer you shower every day.

Running with a trainer varies by company. TransAm is about 11 days unless you request more time. Some companies could be a month and up to 10 months.
Should be on the websites about the length of time with a trainer.

When I pulled reefers, for awhile I had a regular Saturday run to K-Mart in Valdosta. Easy money. Used to sneak the wife on the truck with me on that run.

Sadly enough, I'm not sure what that means. I am completely oblivious to everything other than what I've learned on this thread and another I created yesterday..

I plan on being on the road and hardly at home.. is this I hear about animal companions true? Like, do most companies allow a pet to ride along?

Most companies do. Some have a weight limit for dogs. A guy posted today that Freymiller let him take his 65 lb. dog with him.
That's a question you can ask if you call the companies.
