We have to make $1000 a day. We recently discussed an oversize load. They wanted the driver to sit, for 7-10 days. The agent said, "That will be $750, a day." The shipper said we didn't need that much money.

I called on a partial. The guy was really rude. It was paying $1.50 a mile, for 10 feet. Our truck was going to Oklahoma and I had space. I was trying to figure out how to fit the guy in; he told me my husband would watch a video, and fit his schedule, then he hung up. I called him back later. He was super nice. I said, "You were rude to me, earlier. We can't haul for you."

We don't do cheap, or rude. I keep a list.

I find that guys think they are making money but are not putting money away for equipment replacement/ taxes, healthcare etc. I wish we all could set a bar that we do not go under...if we could all agree
Fuel price / fuel economy right now est .54 +.15 M&R + .25 equipment replacement + .54 salary + .20 taxes/ healthcare/ retirement + deadhead estimate .45 + .8 insurance = $2.21 per mile is our base and anything above that is profit. The DAT shows that as about the average but that tells me a lot of folks are losing money out there. The big carriers are a big problem they leverage better prices on fuel, parts, trucks and they are really just big cash flow machines that pay executive huge salaries, pay the truckers jack and really don't make healthy profit margins...

Most important thing ever mentioned since I became a member here.....

Many of these drivers never look nor care about the big picture..

Equipment replacement (For those not willing to keep their equipment around more than 5 years)
Gotta put away at least 25k per year for that
These are mINIMUMS too just to be clear-
    Taxes,Healthcare-Retirnent that's another 35k per year

And I don't want to hear- "Mind your own business,My operation differs from yours,Dont tell me what I Need to save"

^^^ And that's why freight rates are subpar in some areas...Drivers are happy paying their Bills and Wingin' every other facet of life-

See What Free Markets can dictate?

Communism is a much better alternative to free market capitalism.

I tried my best, every time I encounter o/o , to explain them exactly what you stated; some will listen and some will put their head down and walk away or others will say “ if I don’t take it , someone will and I have bills to pay “
I do my part as much as I can . For instance , I park my truck/reefer and if a broker calls me and offered me what I want , I will haul it . I’m not going to haul a cheap load because I believe that I’m doing a disservice to all of you guys .
    Keep it up !!!

See, this is the type of people I was talking about . And when their equipment goes to the junk yard , this guy will blame , everyone but him.
