I don't know, I may be looking at the world from a dark smelly place, but, imho, these companies have dock workers for a reason don't they? Why does it become the responsibility of the driver to unload freight? I just can not understand where this mindset comes from.

There have been some good points made from both sides. I think the best way is for the driver to have the ability to choose whether or not they want to unload. I've unloaded plenty of trailers in my time here on Earth and I like it much better on the other side of the dock in the truck where I belong.
If I wanted to unload trailers, I'd have stayed in the warehouse and retail industries. However, if it's just yanking pallets off the truck, for 60 bucks hell yeah I'll do that!
Used to do it for a lot less than 60-75 bucks lol. -
I hear ya. When I was in expedite, I was known to unload every once in a while. Espeacially at the on dock in Fort Worth. The were Veterans who were in a work program for injured Vets. They always appreciated the extra help and were really great guys. Other than that, if it meant I could get out of there and back home quicker to do it myself, then I did. If I had to do it because the dock workers were to lazy and I had time, then I let dispatch handle it.

After running hard for two days over a three day holiday weekend while the dock workers were eating back-yard BBQ and suckin' suds in beautiful weather with friends and family, ......
I arrive at the dock early in the morning on their first day back from a most enjoyable and relaxing vacation -- for THEM -- after driving the last 10 hour leg of the long journey -- only to be informed that I, the Big truck truck driver -- who's head hasn't touched a pillow in over 20 hours -- will be expected to unload my entire trailer and stack the floor load on pallets for them, AFTER separating the various items, for them.
Knowing they were HOT for the stuff in my trailer, I declined their offer and suggested they git 'er done themselves because I was going to get some needed sleep.
Well then driver --- you're gonna be here awhile.
GOOD!
Take ALL the time you want to.
I could use 10 hours sleep.
But I understand your shift is only 8 hours.
I can live with that.
Let me know when YOU'RE finished.
Geeze, driver. You're one lazy _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

Lumpers, what a racket.. but then companies like americold will not pay a driver to unload sort and stack even if the driver had a receipt,, they pay for the lumpers to unload only. My company pays for the lumpers so we dont have to unload or load or palletize. some companies like canyon creek in lewiston idaho will pay the driver to unload and sort and palletize, but then want you to log it in the sleeper, can you say excuse me?? i guess with the extra money you can lie on your log,, i heard one driver one day say a dock wanted to charge him a lumper fee, he sid no you oredered the load you unload it and no charge, they refused so he took his trailer and headed for the gate, the police met hime at the gate. when they found out the company refused to unload, they said it was outa theyr hands, when all was said and done the company unloaded the trailer no charge, good for that driver for sticking to his guns.
