ultimately, theyre probably one of the better rookie driver companies to work for but thats not saying all too much.

the fleet consists of cascadias and lt650s all in the lowest base economy spec, the most you will get is an inverter and kingpin pressure gauge. all are governed at 65mph locked to economy mode with a 360 degree AI camera system, they have since gone through nearly the entire fleet and moved the cameras below the sun visor.

yes they have some petes and kens but those guys are either owner ops or old boys who have been with roehl since day 1.

when i left, they only had a 3% 401k match and it was up to i think 10k or 15k on the year max

insurance is ok, not too high, not low and your deductibles are affordable, you can pretty much go anywhere you need for medical, dental, vision care.

gycdl is a 3 week crash course, they want you in and out and you WILL EAT THAT 7K if you do not pass, they will 110% send you to collections, the sad thing is, they are given money from the government to train cdl drivers AND they prey on the mentally unfit, uneducated, those not financially literate.

id say 50% of gycdl students PER CLASS are already using the efs advanced check feature day 1 aka rolling debt.

they run off a sliding scale so the more miles that load gives you the less you get paid, and yes, you can 100% drop below your hire offered cpm rate if you take a really long load. address to address mileage pay based on their routing system, They claim recorded eld mileage but you will find dependencies they seemingly can not explain.

dryvan .30-.45cpm, reefer/flatbed .50-.65 cpm but they will always negotiate a lower cpm.

take note, brand new gycdl students can often make the same if not more than current drivers with tenure.

dedicated dryvan accounts all start in the .40s cpm range, their dedicated reefer accounts dont pay any better, if the dedicated account doesnt have a backhaul for dryvan expect to take literal trash/recycle loads to waste plants. the reefer guys get good ole produce kill farm facilities which is rare but a last ditch effort to get you moving.

local guys make between $19-$25/ hr and raises are hard to come by and if you start in the mid 20s expect to hear the pay cap nonsense on why you will never receive another raise.

They have a specialized RGN fleet but its very hush hush and you have to be in the CLIQUE to even be looked at for a slim opportunity, the pay scale for it is very much a secret.

flatbed guys get $60 for a tarp job even if the account pays much more than that to roehl.

They have an in house ELD/GPS system, its extremely outdated but very much a "if i aint broke dont fix it" situation, they have decades of data, It tells you exactly where, when, how fast, which direction, what time for anything you need to know related to your loads, roehl legitimately makes it impossible for you to not screw up, and yet people still do.

if you are a brand new driver through their gycdl course, you can become a trainer after 6 months of clean driving and they push dispatchers to shove it down your throat.

when i left, we had 60 gycdl graduates for every 1 trainer.

if you become a trainer you get .1cpm for every mile your students drives their first year and .05cpm 6 months after(yes actually half a cent), BUT if you change fleets anytime between then, your trainer bonus cpm goes out the window.

detention is $15/hr after 2 hours BUT if you get stuck loading/unloading for 10hours or more they consider if your break and only pay you detention for anytime AFTER 10 hours. very scummy imo.

roehl pays all lumper fees, they have a perdiem program but its pretty bad honestly, they DO NOT pay for any of your parking, if you live within 50 miles of a terminal or drop yard you must park it there on home time. if you live further than 50 miles then you must get approval on where you will park your truck.

they have a walk away lease purchase program but you are limited to the truck THEY want you to drive/choose from, you have high escrow, maintenance, insurance, dispatching costs to the company and your cpm is around the $1.15-$1.75 range as base pay. Theyre so petty they charge lease/owner ops if they use the automatic washbays at terminals.

Im no longer legally binded so ask away and I will inform you to my best knowledge.

Good place to learn flatbed/conestoga -- or go elsewhere, instead?

They do a good job at training load securement but from the standpoint of training brand new uneducated drivers.

they teach you, they show you, then they watch you practice and guide you.

Depending on the terminal some of the trainers are extremely knowledgeable million+ mile drivers. other terminals, theyre drivers whove been with roehl for awhile but kept getting in trouble so they got relegated to a trainer position.

most terminal trainers make about $800 a week.

experienced drivers applying into roehl have been known to be tied to 6 month contracts.

I trained a guy who came in with a cdl but no experience, he didnt negotiate so he had a 6 month $3500 contract.

closer you are to gary indiana the better.

aside from marshfield WI, the Gary IN terminal does a vast majority of training on flatbed.

if you live east coast, they will send you to atlanta to train at the small terminal then send you to Indiana or one state over to qualify your training.

west coast you will get sent to michigan, wisconsin, or indiana.

    suckers get suckered.

We had a swift transplant who came over, swift was paying him something like .26cpm, roehl offered him .34cpm and he went on a tangent about how roehl is so good because they pay him a livable wage. I had to refresh this guy to verify he was legit.

the guy was a complete rookie with "a clean record"
