He said because my neck was bigger then 17" and my Body Mass Index (BMI) was over 31 I probably have sleep apnea. The kicker for me is I DO have apnea but i have been on CPAP therapy for it since 2007, he just wants a fresh test done.

And Swift dictates where you get your physical done. I have no choice! All the big carriers are doing this so changing companies won't do any good. I need the retrain so I need a starter company, Swift was good to me before and it's the closest terminal of all the big carriers to where I live.

If you're already under CPAP treatment and have a Doctor monitoring it this really is wrong.

What is also wrong is going in with your doctor's note from your personal physician that states he feels the study is not necessary, but the DOT doctor won't accept it stating he has final say on your physical.

Something does need to be done for my physician of 15 years who knows my body better than I do has night say over someone who saw me for only 3 minutes? This is shoving drivers right out of this industry and it isn't right. Where is OOIDA on these issues? Nowhere. Makes you wonder where that yearly fee is going. Oh yeah, some lobbyist for the HOS argument. What good is the HOS rules if you have no one left to drive the trucks in the first place?

Last year was the lowest traffic fatality rate year since 1947. If every truck driver has sleep Apnea as these doctors are trying to push, there should be accidents all over the place.

Newsflash...Don't assume. BMI is horribly inaccurate. I know a guy my company who is short, built like a Greek statue and he is not only overweight according to his BMI...He's CLINICALLY OBESE. Now tell me how a body builder who also wrestles college athletes as a hobby needs to lose weight. I'd say that perhaps BMI isn't always a good standard. : )

I think its safe to assume. we are talking about truck drivers here not body builders 38 is cazy unless hes 7,5 tall. I know what you are saying mine says im to big to but I have 32 inch wasteline 5,10 200 lbs. I just cant get over some of the drivers like there almost proud to be 300 pounds smokers with high bp and diabetics. Its gross and makes me sick how someone will waste there life.

Sorry for the rant not trying to attack anyone person on here.

Once the "National Registry Of Certified Medical Examiners" is complete and in use I am going to look for a new doctor who is participating in the program. That way the same doctor who is treating me year round will be doing my DOT Physical and will know me and that everything is under control. Of course he will have to be a real Doctor and not a Chiropractor etc.

Well, I do agree that in this case you may have hit the nail on the head, but I was just wanting to point out how we seem to keep getting these ways of telling us we're not healthy even if we are...and it's funny but I'd bet my bottom dollar it all stems from insurance companies.

As someone who is overweight and working on losing this fat I'm carrying around, I too cannot comprehend people who get into that bad of shape and then just let it keep going. I hit a really bad point in my life and I ballooned up. Now, I've dropped a lot of weight and I'm dropping every single day since my wife and I came up with sensible foods we could eat on the road without having to stop anywhere. On top of that, we're planning on having a daily workout routine to help us get in even better shape.

And for anyone out there who wants to say "Oh, but I can't fix my weight problem" I can tell you for a fact that you can. You may not like what you have to DO to make it happen, but you CAN make it happen. I'm living proof.

You think maybe FMCSA is trying to make our lives so miserable it will force us to lose weight and be healthier?
    Just a thought.
