The government is representative, I elect them to voice my opinion for me on matters pertinent to me. Leaving the government out of it as you say is essentially saying "I am not a citizen of this country, represent everyone else and not me" I say REPRESENT ME !! REPRESENT THE TRUCKERS for once !! If we don't raise a stink from time to time they will continue to pass legislation detrimental to our line of work. You know the shippers and recievers we haul for all have lobbyists and make political contributions to buy favor. Use your head.

Yep And I made sure My Rep understood what a piece of crap idea this is. And my opinion of OOIDA, their pet politician DeFazio, and this insipid request for the government to run someone else's business for them.

I informed him I will work to fire his ### (We just fired the last Rep. Davis last year for forgetting whom employed him)too if he were to support unconstitutional infringements on free markets like this bill is.

This is the exact same thing as asking them to make a pass through on fuel surcharge. NO WAY IN HELL! If you are not smart enough to run your business you do not enjoy protection from your business practices. Why because if they start protecting the feeble minded, how long until in the interest in keeping shipping affordable a national per mile rate is mandated? Sounds great right? Sure until it is set at $1.03 a mile:biggrin_25519:

    What's next fixed fuel prices?
    Fixed equipment cost's?
Should they now tell Garage's what the proper time frame fro repairs is?

They have countries that make those mandates. I'll buy the plane ticket for Grain Valley and anyone else that wants the government to solve their problems for them!!

Well this country has already used YOUR logic, elected a president who told us just that. And we got the GOVERNMENT involved in making more regulations to "stimulate" our economy.

How's the Hopey-Changey economic recovery working out for you?

But oh well, no matter what happens we can just keep blaming George Bush, even if the sun turns black...

A lot of places we go to unload/load, they don't have appointment times. So when you have sat there for a few hours, dispatch will say we can't charge detention because they don't do appointments.

IMO, companies need to be held financially responsible for making guys wait. I understand sometimes things happen. But when it's repeatedly the same every time you go into a certain shipper/receiver, then that needs to be addressed.

No, I am not for the government stepping in but if that's what it takes then so be it. The little guy doesn't have enough backing to make these the big companies be responsible. I for one get sick and tired of going some where to load and spend 6 hours waiting. And I have to unload somewhere that night but now don't have the hours to get there. It's a domino effect and gets old. All it does it take money outta my pocket because some shipper doesn't get a f@#k.

The trucking industry NEEDS to come to the 21st century on this.

Our company does not have delivery times. Receiver messes up and detention pay starts at the end of 2 hours. When they realize they are being charged, and I am being paid to just stand there, things happen.

It's up to the carrier to charge the detention and pay it to the driver. If the carrier chooses NOT to charge and pay detention then it becomes the driver's choice as to whether they want to continue working for said carrier delivering to said dock!

It's time to be men and not sheep! This problem is easily solved by truck drivers refusing to be continually bent over the fuel tank! If the majority of drivers at a specific carrier said NO then things would change. That in turn would create change elsewhere in the industry.

    No.
These are opinions and comments concerning an issue.

Yours, was nothing more than blatant comments concerning a president who has nothing to do with it.

And the carrier is so terrified of loosing business he won't dare try to push detention on the precious customer..

MG has it IMO. Nothing will change until we do and if "Johnny Driver" will do it then give him a call...lets get him in here.....
