Might have been a little more, but it covered fuel back 80-81.
I'll see if I can find some of my old settlements and see if my memory is any good. Lol

I was waiting to hear that — guy I worked for gave us $500 in an envelope and replenished it when you hit the yard — and you had better have the numbers jive when you settled up

Worked for a man selling hot dogs at a race track. At the end of the day he would count the buns. I always thought this was for inventory. So I started counting them for him. I did this twice for him. He told me. Don't worry about it.
Long story short, if the hot dog roll count and the cash count didn't equal or come close. Some one got docked a couple bucks that day.

In six years driving I only needed 4 advanced. 2 where for tolls. I understand not every one is good with money. I do believe in the cash in the glove box idea. But I would start small. Say 50.00. But I would also have. Back up lights/fuses/ and other little thing. Fluids. So if the driver needed something for the truck it was prolly already there. The fifty would be to replace what ever was used.
On the flip side. Because I have always had the option of getting a cash advance I would offer the driver the per diem allowances. Per day. That way all is equal.
I guess one could still steal from the fuel card.

Same thing whenever we took oilfield equipment cross country like out to ND,Wy,Tx. Got 500 advance on our cards for hotels/tolls and anything else you needed along the way. You'd better have receipts for everything
