While I was at cdl school, we trained in trucks with double bunks. Any suggestions on how to get my 5' 8" heavy weight frame up in that top bunk when I go out with a trainer? Any of these trucks have ladders in them or a tall foot stool?

My truck is a Volvo 780 and it has a ladder.

I managed to get into the top bunk of both the ladderless Kenworth T600 and T2000 without much trouble and I'm a heavyweight.

Our cascadias have a footpad on the top of each cabinet shelf on either side and a handhold on the drivers side one. No problem to pull step and step and you're up there

Many starter companies forbid using the top bunk while the truck is in motion. If you trainer is driving, request/demand that you sleep on the bottom. If you sleep on the top bunk and your trainer has to hit the brakes hard, you'll be waking up with a really bad headache.

Really every OTR truck should have double bunk sleeper. It is more practical all the way around.

Running teams, training, carrying rider, etc. It is always there if needed. Top bunk can be folded out of way for solo.

While I dont think i'm heavy weight, i am abit over weight for my 5'2" height and other than listenig to my husband laugh his head off, while I climbed up to the top bunk i never had a problem. Getting down, well thats another story.

The shelves make a great ladder in the Kenworth.

The first company I ran for I had a trainer. There was no way I was sleeping in his bed. I slept topside but it got ruff a few times.

now thats the point, it hurts when you land. I'm not afraid of heights, it's that sudden stop at the bottom that worries me.

IDK about other trucks but my husbands has a warning about sleeping in the top bunk while the truck is in motion.
