I honestly don’t see how one would fail. Certainly not at 10,000 pounds. But what the hell do I know.

Personally never have had one fail but wouldn't be surprised to see it, the only thing holding them together is a tiny weld bead.

The fancy ones that cradle the wood are usually set for 15k

Eh..not sure about this one, depending on the weight of those slit coils. If those are 3/8 chains with 6600 WLL, they're only half their value in that horseshoe config, meaning the total WLL is 12,000 for 4 chains. If that is heavier than 24,000 (say a 40k weight), that's not enough chain WLL for that coil.

I admit, I can't see inside the coil, to see if those chains are being crossed to the other side, to give it full WLL value of 6600 each chain(total WLL of 24K), or if one is horseshoe and the other is crossed, then it changes to (18K) for total WLL. That's why pictures make it so hard to tell accurately unless you have multiple shots and info on the equipment being used (5/16" vs 3/8") of chains and binders.

If he's done securing, then it looks like he forgot an edge protector on the bottom side of that top chain cinch. :)

Used to haul a lot of coils in shotgun config.

You should go the last place I drove as a company driver. I was scratching my head and got into a little disagreement with my "boss" when he told me this DOUBLED the working load limit. NO kidding. He literally looked at me and says "I just doubled the working load limit", while still using one single binder to boot.

Are we just not going to count the 3 4” straps over the top? The fancy pants chain up top counts towards the wll requirement also.

Yeah but that top chain kinda looks like he went through his ### hole to get to his elbow.

True. Those are pretty wide but it’s still kind of ######## to ship slitted coils shotgun. In my opinion. They should at least provide a rack that goes in front of the slitted coils that would eliminate the need for that goofy top chain.

    Its tmc
    1. Theyre 5/16 chain, 4,700 x 3, covers 14,100 lbs
2, one set will be an x, the outers will be horseshoed same side
    3. 1 Strap each coil 5400 covers 16,200 lb
    4. Cumulative wll of 30,300 meets the 1/2 the weight of the load dot requirement easily, can pretty well guarantee thats not a 60,600 lb load

    5. I dont think the weird choke chain counts towards securement wll, its almost more so the tarp lays on it nicely as much as for choking the top together, its downward/forward/rearward contribution is suspect

    Okay
Right I’m just going by the way I was taught. Guy who showed me had been hauling coils for years. Friction mats on the bottom, 4-5 coil racks as I described then dunnage etc. probably overkill but he hadn’t had an issue yet and I had no problems in the short time I hauled them. No WLL stamp on my pneumatic bulk trailer so I don’t worry about it anymore
