going on 19 years of driving It seems so funny to me all though I use an engine break for exiting ramps or to slow me down on a down grade or
whatever other necessary reason to use them. It's funny to me how many of you 3 week driving skool grads. new breed truck drivers use a jake/engine break just because you think it sounds cool.I mean give me a break if you
think you need a jake/engine brake when you are on city streets then you need to slow down and drive a little slower anyway.I have forgot to turn mine off when I get to the end of the ramp,But for god sakes new breed 6 month exp. hay I'm a trainer for US. express minded truck drivers you don't
need a jake/engine brake when you are in a truckstop parking lot.And we wonder why people think truck drivers don't have an education.hey I have to go got a traffic light coming up need to turn on my jakes so everyone will think I'm cool.

Why pick on ivanho, he brings up a good question, WHY USE THE JAKE WHEN NOT NESSARY! I live in the country and hear jake noise all the time, but I also hear Harleys blasting through all the time. I think the issue is the use of mufflers EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE ONE it's good manners.

I never turn mine off outside a parking lot or a traffic jam. I've had one to many idiots pull out of a parking lot right in front of me, into my lane, and drive straight at me. I don't leave it on because it sounds cool, it could be silent if they bothered to design it that way. I leave it on so grandma, who should not even be allowed to drive, doesn't end up stuck in my grill.

I didnt mean to start the Harley thing(owned 2 over the last 20 years, rather ride the Goldwing). But contrary to popular belief loud pipes dont save lives it just pisses of the neighbors. Life to short to ruin someones day by blasting by someones house(Harley or 18 wheeler) making the pipes scream (most of the trucks I have owned have had straight pipes, I cant hear in my left ear from it). Be kind shut off that jake in places where it not nesscary.

Right on brother. Except I do like the sound. Nothing cooler then the sound of a big truck jaking:yes2557: I have also been know to hit them on purpose. A sign that says "No jakes" is an invite to me.

How about if the law / rule makers just say no noise over so many decibils instead of singling out jakes
