Fatigued drivers kill about 4 times as many people as drunk drivers.
Prove your statement, please.
All of the statistics I can find for the last few years show alcohol was involved in about 18 % of fatal crashes, and 7 % of all crashes. Fatigue is listed at between 10 to 20 % of fatal crashes, and between 5 to 10 % of all crashes. Also shows most fatigue accidents happen in the mid-afternoon, and morning hours, not at night.

I remember a few years back when I had gotten a real estate sales license.
because I wanted to fix up and sell houses. After passing the test I went to the brokers office and she said to me..." Now forget all that crap or your gonna starve."
Kind of the same in all industries I guess.
Can we hear about the attachments now!!! -

Very well said!
There is nothing I could say to improve your post!
FWIW, (not much!) I have been a driver for 16 years now.I started a new job and went out to start training yesterday. In less than 6 hours, I observed about a half dozen SERIOUS violations of FMCSA regulations and I was personally asked to violate 3 different rules on MY FIRST DAY working for this company.!
I researched the outfit, using all the tools at My disposal. Their stats "look" great! My guess is they are lucky and haven't got caught or been involved in a nasty accident.
The question that all of us, AS PROFESSIONALS WHO KNOW BETTER,have to ask is: How much risk are you willing to accept? What are you going to say to the officer, the Judge, the victim's family, and God when you are responsible for someone's death as a result of you "bending" the rules???
Personally, I am no longer willing to take those chances. I used to, but I have watched too many good drivers lose their livelihood and some lose their liberty for someone's cheap freight! I chose to run by the book and never put myself in a compromised situation again. Maybe if more of us professionals adopted this attitude, our lifestyle, our respect, and hopefully, our pay will improve!!!
Unfortunately as long as the lawless are allowed to persist in the callous disregard for the rules, their blatant disdain for common sense safety, and their pathetic attempts to circumvent the rules, John Q. Public will never see as more than a bunch of unwashed, illiterate, and dangerous outlaws that need to be baby sat every minute of every day.
Sorry for the long rant!
To the OP, do not let anyone, on thus forum or in the real world, cause to lower your standards! I think you did the right thing!!!Last edited: Mar 10, 2011

I don't know where I read that fatigued drivers kill 4X more, but it is without a doubt responsible for more accidents and deaths. Look at other factors of accidents. Speeding, bad weather conditions, mechanical failure, and more accidents occur while driving drowsy, and almost a third of all deaths are caused by fatigued driving. The thing is driving a CMV with any detectable amount of alcohol will get you automatically put out of service for 24 hours. You can "legally" drive as fatigued as you want, so a lot of people don't see this as an issue.
Here's another study that show that fatigued driving is more dangerous than drinking and driving.

What they fail to point out with that is that out of the accidents where drowsiness or sleepiness is cited as a factor, the driver of the car is the one cited 94% of the time.
