I'm sure every profession has the textbook way of doing things, and the real world way of doing things. I have formal education in Automotive Technology, and Computer Science (software engineer). Most people don't fix cars the text book way because you wouldn't make any money. Any programmer that I know doesn't do flowcharts or pseudocode. The difference between this and that is I was never told to do anything illegal, let alone on a regular basis.

Sorry but I have no reason the break the HOS, especially since I'm in training. California had put a lock on my license, which took about 3 months to clear up. Had nothing to do with anything I did. They had given me a Cali drivers license number (but I never had a Cali license), then when the TSA background check came back, they locked both because I "had two licenses". I've had to jump through far too many hoops to get this class A, and to have someone tell me to break the rules all the time... Plus as of right now I have a perfect CSA score.

I left a profession where the cheater companies were the only ones making money... and they prospered greatly. Cheaters will always prosper. And there will always be thousands to replace the few who get caught.

Fudging logs a "little" bit might never get caught. But this is a digital world and there are too many ways to prove location. From receipts, road cameras, cell tower hits (whether talking or not), remaining fuel in your tanks compared to the miles from the last fill location, etc, that if you are ever hauled up in front of the judge and jury, that piece of paper with a pen line on it will not mean a thing. Changing logs by hours or substantial portions of a day??? That is just insane to believe you will not get caught when tested!

As for the chain of command, it is proper to go above the person making/forcing the infractions. If an action is not swift enough (no pun intended) for certain situations, immediate action must be taken. Stepping out of the vehicle was the right thing to do.

Staying with the company will also be the right thing. Unless you are punished for doing what was right.

ever see that Bill Murray movie where he is transporting an elephant across the country...??

he asked the trucker something like, "don't you sleep".?

to which he (the trucker) responded, "i slept last tuesday"....

you're lucky you got 3 to 4 hours of sleep. did you think trucking was a 9 to 5 job and you get all the rest/sleep YOU WANT...???

it just isn't like that out there. you get what you can get.

Might also have been a test....to see if you would lie. I kinda doubt it but possible.

And yes it's difficult to make a wage in this business. The typical OTR model puts driver wages at 35 k for about 3000 hours worked. The U.S. median is $39,500 for 2080 hours so yeah, you gotta fall in love with this gal to do it and she's ungrateful too.

Next time, if there is, refuse to lie or change your book. This is your career and you license and your score. There is only one of those and thousands of carriers.

Drivers like you worry me. You obviously have no problems with driving illegally, nor based on your posts even driving unsafely.

We have too many steering wheel holders out there. We need more professional drivers.
