No company at all would be better than JoBHunt. The name alone should tell you what kind of outfit that is. Get a job with Jobber today, be hunting for another job tomorrow.
There are some outfits that hire in Florida. The best place to look is your phone book yellow pages. -
1) Take notice of which carriers you see in your area on a regular bases.
2) Talk to those drivers as much as possible.
3) If those companys are of interest to you then call them and ask pointed questions. ( OOIDA has a link on their web site for good questions you should ask. Many of those questions pertain to O/Os but can be modified for a company driver. )
Remember, at some point you will want to go home, and if a company does not have a freight base into or out of your area you will not get there very often. This leadsto dissatisfaction with your carrier and even the job itself. Just because a company may pay better than another doesn't mean they will be a good fit for you.
Schnider for seems to have the biggest national customer base, and from the posts I've read, they also seem to have a good driver training program.
It is my opinion that anyone should stay away from JB Hunt. Over the last week many of their top executives have cashed in a large amount of stock options, and their debt is around $913 million, with their stock being down graded. These are not good signs. Especially with the rapid rise in fuel cost. I do not wish ill on anyone or company, however, these are the facts. -
well, here i am . i did graduate on 4-4-08(although started cdl training on 3-17-08, not 3-10-08).this week i applied for hazmat endorsement and am waiting on that. is Burky still around? My school manager knows you(tom p). school was much more involved then i thought it would be. glad i got it done. jdrentzjr, thank you for the reply and taking time out of your life to help. still looking for a (good) job. right now trying for ABF. i was hoping Burky could name some good companies as i don't live all that far from him. one proud newbie here. by the way, my 92 y.o. mother was braggin' about me to her bridge club.

I voted "Other"........Knight Transportation
Knight Transportation is by far the worst of the worst of the worst.
Ever drive for a company that did everything in its' power to keep you from your home terminal cuz they knew once you got anywhere near the place you would turn in the truck? I have.....Knight Transportation.
Ever drive for a company that kept you in the rockies or western states, and claimed they had no freight going east of Denver ever? I have.....Knight Transportation.
Ever drive for a company that has a 4 to 1 trailer to tractorratio, and never have an empty trailer for you anywhere? I have.......Knight Transportation.
Ever drive for a company that for whatever reason, made you sit for a day or two every time you got to one of the terminals? I have.......Knight Transportation.
Ever drive for a company that refused to get you to the house when your daughter has been involved in an accident and is in the hospital, just cuz there's nothing going that direction? I have......Knight Transportation.
Ever drive for a company that you checks were less than you spent living on the road for that week? I have.......Knight Transportation.
Belive me; I can go on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on if I wanted to.......but I think you get the point. -
Somehow I get the feeling you don't care much for Knight.
Seriously though, their empty trailer issue is one of the most posted complaints on this site. -

What is funny about it? Please explain.
4 trailers for every 1 truck in the fleet, and these bone-heads can't seem to find an empty one for their drivers? What's so funny about that?
Three quarters of the Wal-Marts (not to mention most of the other contracted shippers) that Knight drops & hooks at have rules against the "hook" part? What's so funny about that?
Knight drivers (your brothers and sisters) running all over creation looking for an empty trailer for free so they can have some sort of hope of MAYBE getting loaded within a day or two? What's so funny about that?
Cops being called to the terminals (seen this in Fontana, CA.) because of drivers who have been sitting for the past two/three days fist fighting over the one and only empty trailer just braught in, in a 200 mile radius? What's so funny about that?
Reading your next assignment on the QualComm, and seeing (seemed like EVERY time) "Special Instruction"-----"Driver is not to be allowed to bobtail in, or pull emties out of this shipper/consignee"........Just shoots that trip all to heII? What's so funny about that?
Sorry......I just can't seem to find the humor in it MO family man; you're gonna have to explain please. -
MoFamilyMan, Maybe you could do something good for the world, like donating to Special Olympics, instead of making fun of Down Syndrome kids on your post. But for the grace of God there goes you, or yours.......
