I really have never had much ambition, since I am not that competitive in the first place.
The two seem to go hand in hand. Can't have one without the other.

You should not confuse (or transpose?) a lack of ambition with a lack of self respect.

You should legally change your name to Mega Swift, thus guaranteeing that they will give you a job, and you can happily spend the next 40 years there, until you retire.

    I already work there.
And in 40 years I should be past dead by many years.

If i was looking for a driving job, I'd apply there, it actually sounds like an okay place to be.

My newbie questions were things like: what's the health insurance/retirement/other benefits like, what providers, any holding period, length of training/pay during training, manual or automatic trucks, avg age of equipment, any layover/detention pay, accomodations for training, will company pay to get you there

The megas get a bad rap because they hire mostly new drivers.

One very important thing to remember.
Looking online for reviews does not tell the hole story. Just imagine how bad those companies would look if everyone that walked out actually posted a review. Now consider the ones who are struggling it out till they can get some experiance and find an other job but also didn't post a review.

Well now, lets see......you have a co. with 10,000 power units and 25,000 trailers, which means you need 10,000 drivers for starters, right ? Then you need who knows how many dispatchers, planners, sales people, payroll people, mechanics, etc. Seems easy enough to operate a co. this size, right ? Especially when you hire lots of "fresh meat" as we say daily and train them and send them out there to deal with this exciting new lifestyle as they find out, wait, I didn't know trucking was like this....."my mummy's not here to tuck me in nightly with cookies and milk". And I have to do soooo much on my own, like finding the shippers address in this strange city, driving all these horrible miles every day, on and on. I just thought it was 'sightseeing' up and down the highways all day long ! ! Well, I'll just blame the truck co, it's all their fault, right ? :bootyshake:

The way things were at every mega-carrier 30+ years ago was this; They'd all start you out at 19 cents/mile, and give you as many miles as you wanted to take. If you were smart enough to figure out how to balance 2 log books, you could run about 5000 miles a week. But, as soon as you hit that 2-year mark and went up to 21 cents a mile, they cut back your mileage.
