And you don't know how to take advantage of trucking? Let's see traveling to all the wonderful places to visit around the USA and paid for it. Having maintance done with a phone call for someone to pay your bill. All sorts of people to meet and food to eat.

Yes I love trucking and will die a trucker. But if you did not live your life completely dedicated to something like servicing America with a load of food or meat for NYC for example, so they can give thanks to you that brought to their table. (They will #### your eyes first because you got in their way on the Bridge)

    Then what good is living?

IF the industry was so mean and so bad, this country should surely burn in a land of hunger and need and want for not seeing trucks bring in all the good things to eat, wear and buy.

You have to do something. If trucking aint it? Then find something you love. Have at it. ANyone is welcome to try trucking. It's wonderful. But it's damnination too if you are not careful.

In Wichita KS, McDonalds pays $7.25 an hour. If the worker is lucky enough to get 40 hours a week, the worker's gross pay would be $290, BEFORE any deductions for income taxes, social security, Medicare, or any other deductions that may apply.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Many people work 2 full time jobs at minimum wage. I met a Korean immigrant one time that worked 2 full time jobs plus a part time job after that.

    born&raisedintheusa Thanks this.

We fought them on having to pay the back pay and won but we still got the cuts to pay and benefits. After 7 yrs of no pay increases after the pay cut the city generously gave us a 2% raise in 2016.
At this point all you can do is laugh. I still manage to find part time/ casual driver positions and the starting hourly rate is $3 an hour more than we pay our starting firefighters.

I thought I would never quit trucking but severe night blindness brought me to quit. I couldn't risk crashing or injuring someone because I can't see clearly.

    God bless these individuals.

I TRULY & GENUINELY do hope for people as these to have a LOT of success come their way.

I also TRULY & GENUINELY hope that their health and bodies do NOT breakdown in the process.

In the past, I had worked 2 jobs, often adding up to 70+ hours a week, without benefits.

The job that I am currently in makes it virtually impossible to work a 2nd. job, only because of FREQUENT shift rotations. On some weeks, I will actually work a combination of all 3 shifts, which can mess up your body from time to time, especially as one is getting older.

FORTUNATELY & THANKFULLY, I do work full time with benefits, sometimes getting overtime which really and truly helps with the rent, bills and even putting away for retirement.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

I don't think trucking is that rough. I mean, sure it gets annoying, but what job doesn't?

Something that's getting more glaring in terms of the nastiness of our industry is the disgusting way truck stops, especially the megas, continue to raise prices for everything. They are ripping us off every day. I really hate spending money at truck stops, because for one thing, I know I'll be overcharged - a lot. And, if I spend money on materials and supplies at a truck stop, I'll be feeding the problem I don't like.
