If your truck has a sleeper, it is more than a job, it is a lifestyle not really suited to drivers that expect to be paid per hour. When you are paid on a comission basis. you have to consider drop and hook, the rare warehouse that has it's act together and loads/unloads quickly and when things " fall into place". Your annual earnings as in when I was doing lease purchase. I was focused in successfull completion of the contract and getting clear title to the truck in my name only. Which I did twice. I was not concerned with the number of hours worked. If you want to be paid for every hour, get a local job with a day cab truck.
They all suck!

And then there's those that are sitting under a bridge, barely clinging to life, just got kicked out of a fastfood gig that are wishing to trade life with any of those guys or us right now!!

Exactly 100 % correct

My work called me and asked if I wanted to be put into a sleeper. "You got to be wise-cracking, right?"

Somebody would have to pay for fumigating it, of course. Not me.bentstrider83 Thanks this.

It was actually for coverage at another set of dairies up in Hartley where there's usually 1-2 guys doing it. Apparently nobody was up there and they made a foolish decision to have me come in on days off(unless there's some written requirement, I don't do overtime).
Getting back to some of the other posts though, one's definitely got to find their niche in order to make this CDL thing work out for them. With my post in mind, it's all about daycabs and motel rooms for the overnighter's. -
It's easier to get a crack head off of crack then it is
To get 6,7,8 year and up truck driver off the road.
There's a tipping point where it's almost impossible
For us to work somewhere else with a bunch of coworkers.
The unpredictability, the unknown, the freedom and the
Money is why we do it.
Yea the industry sucks, you have to find a job that
Pays you enough to put up with the suckiness.
I moved from New Jersey to Texas so I would never
Have to drive in the northeast again. Didn't go there
For seven years. Found a great job that pays me enough
That I go there now with a smile on my face.
The right job can change your whole outlook

May I chime in... thanks
I have been in this crazy industry in one form or another since 1988.
Since 1991 as a OTR driver. As ashamed as I am to say it, I feel I hold the world record in driving jobs looking for that perfect company we all know doesn't exist. I still have not found it. But I did find IMO the closets thing to it. And that is with a private fleet. No not Wal-Mart. But it is from DC to stores and back on a dedicated route. For said company not a contracted carrier. I could not be happier. I truly believe I have finally found the place I will retire. I said it before in another thread , IMO... if you want a change and a sense of job satisfaction, better pay, respect. get away from traditional trucking. This is the 2nd Private carrier I have worked for in my 26 yrs as a driver . would probably still be with the 1st one today if they had not gone out of business private carriers is where it's at.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it -
What company are you currently driving for?
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.! -
