Let me start by telling you your post is, honestly, the most well written and intelligent post I have read on any web-site in a long, long time. I do agree with you on every issue you raised. You are mistaken however, regarding my voting for Obama I did not. I did vote for McCain and I did that against my better judgement. If I may be honest just the idea of voting for McCain made me sick. Since I do not want to start trouble with anyone else reading this I will just leave it at that. There are a lot of things about President Obama's political policys that I do not like. But my friend you are missing my point. When a man cannot make a decent living, and what I mean by that is when a man cannot feed his kids provide medical care for them or give them a home to live in and maybe if he works hard enough be able to some day retire then we get men like Obama. Bigblue19 do you disagree with any of that? I never said any company is responsible for providing any of that. I would like you to tell me if a man cannot find a job where he can earn those things then what will he do to provide them. We both know the answer he will allow Uncle Sam to provide them. That is why Senator Obama became President Obama despite the fact that, many people like you and I did not vote for him. He had a message he told people he would help them, how by providing all the things you and I have written about. Where you and I seem to be different is in the way we see how hard working men (and women) should be compensated for their labor. I believe they should be able to afford housing, medicine, food and the ability to provide an AMERICAN life style. You seem to have the older mentality of the old coal companies. The companies paid a decent wage but they owned the store where everyone had to buy everything, they also owned the housing and the fuel pumps. So at the end of the day the worker owed the company money and could not afford to leave. It is great to have free markets but what happens when there is no customers to purchase your products. How come the standard of living is on the raise in countrys like china, india and the philippines while our American standard of living continues to decline. Because companies continue to out source work. The county I live in has lost over three thousand (3000) jobs in the last two years. These are all mill jobs textile work. The companies are all still in business and making huge profits. No one in this part of the country and in particular this county support unions they are all very anti-union so what happen. There was no union labor thus no union wages or union bebefits to drive the companies out. I am still paying the same prices for these very products so where are the savings? Some of these companies are publicly traded and if I open the news paper I see that their stocks are very strong and growing. The compaines are doing well, as is, china and india as well as a few other "third world" counties who make our products. All we have here is high unemployment but, if I turn on the TV I see how china cannot kept up with their own growth. They are not coming up with any of their own products they make our products for our compaines then the companies charge full price keep the difference and call it business. If someone like me complains then there is an army of guys like you calling me a communist. But at the end of the day people need to work for a decent wage and when they cannot find that decent wage they vote for men like Obama who will promise to get them that wage. Bigblue19 whether you like it or not you are obviously intelligent and; subsequently, you have to agree this is what we are experiencing in our country, the greatest country in the history of mankind. I do agree with you that people in America have the ability to make it here unlike any other place in the world. But greed on all levels is taking a toll on the Country we love. I am not a communist and I am not a socialist I am AMERICAN and I want to live the life my fathers built in this the greatest country in the world. So as I told luvtheroad I am not your enemy I am your ally, (unless you have a problem with our country then we got a problem!) Stay safe and make the big money and keep writing those good post I enjoyed it and will look forward to more just don't call me a socialist.

How Was NAFTA Started?:
The impetus for NAFTA actually began with President Ronald Regan, who campaigned on a North American common market. In 1984, Congress passed the Trade and Tariff Act. This is important because it gave the President "fast-track" authority to negotiate free trade agreements, while while only allowing Congress the ability to approve or disapprove, not change negotiating points. Canadian Prime Minister Mulroney agrees with Reagan to begin negotiations for the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement, which was signed in 1988, went into effect in 1989 and is now suspended due to NAFTA. I am truly impressed with the caliber and level of intelligence of the men who post on this site. There really are some very well informed individuals. It makes for some good conversations and some good learning.
Earl Thanks this. -
By the way, this isn't a political thread, so stop trying to hijack the thing. -
then those companies that took part in the gains and are going broke should go out of buisness and no company ever should get a government baillout and deemed to big to fail all companies can fail that is the nature of capitalizm and buisness.

That guy clearly does not live in Michigan!
Very happy you are happy. That is what it is all about. My dad told me and a childhood friend one time to figure out what you love to do. Then find a way to make money at it. I love what I do and make plenty of money for my lifestyle. I don't want to own a yacht or an island or vacation around the world. Some day I will be able to retire with my wife and keep the yard mowed and the flowers growing. It is all I want.
Now...my friend found a way to make a crap ton of money and is now a multi millionaire. It is still hard to believe that fishing with Kevin (Google kevinvandam) when we were kids would be his in to fortune and fame. I still take all the credit! lol...RIGHT!Last edited by a moderator: Mar 3, 2009

When you are mesmerized by ones elegance in speaking and not on the substance of their deeds. You get what you asked for. A middle class with bigger bills and less money to pay them. -
The new admin wants the labor and environmental positions strengthened which will probably have the same effect as Clinton's meddling. A bigger disparigy of imports versus exports. The administrations weakened position in global economy's do not allow for edicts to be forced upon others who do not play by the same rules. They will just take business elsewhere. You don't call the shots when you owe 10 trillion to the rest of the world.
