While you are studying kingpins make sure to make note of the Cali bridge laws.

When in Idaho make sure to not venture off the interstate unless you have made sure to check your route in your Road Carrier Atlas. There are a gazzillion roads you aren't allowed on unless you have a permit. Very easy to get a ticket out there.

Stop at all AG Stations even though you aren't hauling cows and pigs! Found this out the hard way on my first trip out!

You aren't allowed to sit in the passenger seat unless you are on duty/not driving.

DOT law states that whenever you are sliding your tandems in the truck stop parking lot you must put a pair of tighty-whitey's on your head so that other drivers will know what your intentions are! Make sure to do this! Best to do it in the fuel isle!

If you have pre pass in your truck-

No light = must pull into open scale. You may only bypass if you get a green light. There have been instances where a newbie thought having a pre pass box on the windshield meant they never had to go into any scale. Not true.

Carriers are supposed to give these to new hires . They are available at most "travel centers "
I posted this link because if students click "look inside " they can see the table of contents . They can google the regulation number of a reg they want more info on
