Things that make you go . . . Hmmmmmm!

Yeah, it's sad...worse than when I started almost 8 years ago. Backing out to let a slightly faster truck get by, looking WAAAAY back for a fast truck before trying to make a one mph advantage pass, giving a longer passing distance in rain or slush to help keep the windshield of the one being passed a bit more clean....Shall I go on? Seeing someone struggle with tandems and go offer to help, someone has their hood up for more than their pre trip and asking what's wrong and can I help, REALLY paying attention when at shippers or receivers as to the order the trucks have arrived, getting on the CB (remember that?) and let another truck know of a burnt out light, missing mudflap, flat tire, truck's on fire, etc...

<Sigh....>

 

I signal people over unless they're blasting by me and there isn't much point. I appreciate when people do it for me. If they don't want to, not a big deal. It's not something to get upset about.

If you don't want people coming over on you right away, don't signal when they just clear your truck. I only signal when someone is at a comfortable distance in front of me.

I drive at night 99% of the time, and would say more do than don't for me. It happens less and less the further you head east.

 

I believe a couple people have missed the point of this thread. It isn't about "flashing" per se. It isn't even about signaling a driver clear. It is about common courtesy and looking out for your fellow driver, and whether or not the fine customs and traditions of this once proud industry are being replaced with the selfish narcissistic tendencies that seem to be the going thing these days. You know, God forbid that we might be inconvenienced in helping a fellow driver.

if you get blinded by high beams flashing you back over. then you have no business being on the road at night.

there are tons more vehicles coming from the opposite direction that are 1000 times more blinding then someone behind you. \

high beams in your mirrors are nothing compared to bright lights right in your face.

and the etiquette amongst truckers are only going to get worse as more and more newbies hit the road.

Really Snowwy? Really?!? So you've never had someone hit you with the highbeams right as you looked? And you can shift your eyes to the right with oncoming vehicles, when you look back for clearance, there's not much avoiding getting blasted. And yes, I usually wait to look until after the all too often highbeam flash, but you'll still have one get you when you've decided it's safe to look, and then WHAM!

But I'll make sure I never drive at night anymore because I just don't belong out there!

 

my question is, what's with the 4 wheelers that flash you before they pass you? started noticing that a lot running through PA

 

I'll gladly thank a driver for dimming their lights or flashing their markers, but don't highbeam me, I would much rather you not do anything at all than highbeam me.

What's with all of the drivers going down the road with their highbeams on all of the time? It seems like i'm always getting high beams from other truck drivers and not to flash me back over...that's the worst driving down the road with someone behind you high beaming you the whole time, i usually put my foot down and get away from that...
