Those that think flashing over will hold up in court are probably the same ones that would try to use that in court to cover their own ###. Ill flash you over all day long, but its your job to come over safely... not mine.

If I tell you that you're clear to jump of a bridge and you break your back when you hit the ground, how the #&*$ is that my fault!?!? Your're the moron that jumped off the bridge! I didnt push you.

I still consider myself a newby but here is my take on your original post.
When I hear that a big truck is on the side with his markers out, I will try to give him a shout out to see if he needs any help. In the past year and a half I have never got a response and in 160,000 miles i have passed alot of stranded trucks.Sometimes the driver is out of the truck but lots of times they are sitting in the cab.
Having said that- I have been on the side with my 4 ways on trying to figure out directions and at least three times I have had drivers come on asking if I need help. I've even had a trucker in his pickup ask me to follow him and he led me around a truck friendly route to the drop I was looking for(the company had moved)
The flashing lights thing has me a little confused. I'm finding drivers flashing me in at less than a truck length when nobody is behind me and no reason to jump in so soon. I usually flash an acknowledgement but continue down the road until I'm comfortable pulling in. Sometimes I wonder if these drivers are just trying to beat me signalling to pull in.

In regard to courtesy I have to say that I see examples of it all the time. Here is one. I was pulled into a spot(not backed in) because I was doing a reset and because of sun and TV reception that was what worked. When I woke up there was a note on my windshield that a b train tanker was parked where it might be tight for me to back out and if I wanted him to move- just give him a shout on chan. 10. Pretty decent.
I've had a guy get out of his parked truck in the rain and spot me backing an oversize into a parking spot at a truck stop. After two missed setups I was thinking there were alot of drivers laughing at me and I was tired and misserable. Pretty surprised and thankful for the help from that driver

These are examples of help I got. I can think of a few times I have helped other drivers also.

Sometimes I think we look more for the negative than the positives..

Didnt read ahead,.. so if this has been covered please disregard. But did you flash your high beams,.. or did you turn your lights off and back on? Because I show no courtesy to drivers who flash their high beams at me. And I dont mean for this to sound rude,.. but when I put my signal on to come over,.. I'm not asking for your permission. I'm telling you what I am going to do. I know my trailer length and know how much safe distance I need before I come over.

The last thing I want to see at night is someone's high beams blinding me. If you want to show some courtesy,.. reach over and turn em off/Dim em, flash your clearance lights if you want to flash something. I'll give a thank you blink for that. But not high beams in my face.

this used to be taught in the driving classes in high school. you were also supposed to honk your horn in the daylight before you passed. that was a looonnnng time ago though for me

The reason for this lack of brotherhood is DEREGULATION. Before then there were protected rates and lanes as well as more and stronger union influence among all blue collar professions. When we head back to that golden time in American history, the brotherhood will return. High turnover, low pay, no healthcare and cutthroat competition do not make for a very pleasant professional environment.

Hope this wasn't too political for this thread, but it is the simple truth.

    I couldnt agree more.

I originally started back in the 80's. The CB was your life line. We looked out for each other. Now your worried about the next guy stealing something from you.

We used to run in packs. Now I prefer to be alone. I dont want anyone near me. I almost never turn the CB on anymore.
