Thats what Im saying. You wont get an gross overweight ticket but you will get one for being overweight on an axle per bridge law. If your tandems are in correct spot/hole and its too heavy, don't take load until its fixed(i.e. freight removed or reworked)

Yes Washington State was one of the first ones to write violations for not having an instruction sheet on how to operate your elog/mcp system.

I think thats b.s. about your bed not being made up, and getting a violation for it. I have heard how a port in Iowa asks if you have a clean white sheet unopened in a bag. In case you come upon a dead person on the road way. I don't know if its true. But I keep a clean sheet anyway just in case.

P.s. I heard, that if you give that or any officer permission to step up onto your truck, you just gave them permission to search it. Also with the Border Patrol check points. When they ask you to open your door, and you do, you have just given them permission also to search your truck. In both cases, permission is implied.

It sounds funny though, why a cop would want to place you in his car, while he searched your truck. That don't sound right to me.

I was taught having your cdl period is implied consent, I was shown where in the fmcsr but have since forgotten

This is for his protection as well as yours, protects him from a irritated driver and you from traffic

I have to disagree with the comment, "for his protection, the cops that is." Truckers are for the most part, good, honest, hard working people. I think its just overzealous power-tripping cop, too afraid to really go after gang banger or other criminals, real criminals. So these chicken poop cops, want to put on some act or show for their own ego's, its so easy to 'bully' some dumb trucker, actually trying to do whats right.

Tb when i was still enlisted any time we had to search someone we always had the same theory. Id rather be over vigilant and safe then complacent and dead. I agree 99% of truckers are good people but its that one percent that will bite you in the Rear every time.

No offense Mr. Donald Derby, but, "is that what we're calling it now, Over Vigilance?" Taking away every ones basic rights and freedoms, just because their may be one out of a hundred thousand that may, may be dangerous?

No Mr. Donald Derby, out of control legal figures, hell bent on finding fault with truck drivers, because we are so docile, easy to catch and a good prey, is another thing wrong with trucking today.

You see Mr. Donald Derby, truckers make money, ergo, we pay our legal fines and bills. Hence, we are the food, the money making revenue for so many counties and cities. We're their 'meal ticket', and nothing more.

Where is Mr. Derby, the old "Spirit of the Law, vs. the letter of the law" enforcement today. Cops write us tickets for money, not to help us or teach us, to warn us, or to make us any safer than what we already are. Its only one thing they are after, money, and nothing more.

Its the Cops that bite us in the rear, every time! Mr. Derby, and not the other way around.

The cops bite us in the rear when we don't cover our rear........or when we just plain screw up.

I am actually agreeing with you, The police and government frequently overstep their boundaries, and the fact that most laws are left to interpretation tends to scare me; as an officer is free to interpret "bend" the law for their desired result. However I also look at it from the other side, you cant tell if a person is good by looking at them, thus if my daughter was the officer i would want her to be safe. As far as over vigilance goes I would prefer officers that are situationaly aware but most are under trained and prone to panic.
Either way our bickering is not really helping anyone, and I am not trying to troll so I will respectably back down. Stay Safe

I am not bickering, I am sorry, just expressing a lot of pent up resentment towards our legal system, its not directed at you, believe me.

And yes, I agree, cops should be careful, because yes, there are a lot of nuts out there, and very dangerous situations.

I am sorry if I seemed rude or nasty, I wasn't trying to be.
