It’s 100% possible to do this but you better have all your ducks in a row. As many have said here it’s a rough business. Take the time and as suggested do your research. There is plenty of info on this site and everything you need to know is here. Without a doubt IMHO after 30 years in this business I would say it would be financial suicide to jump right in without first gaining the knowledge by driving for a company first.

You won't learn anything from a company but bad habits. They do all of the dispatching for you, tell you when and where to fuel, when you can reset, when you can go home, what route to take, etc. All you do is hold a steering wheel and do what they say. Tire blows? Call dispatch and they take care of it. Breakdown? Call dispatch and they take care of it. Anything goes wrong with a load? Call dispatch and they take care of it. You don't do anything but hold that steering wheel and follow the GPS they put in the truck. What you will learn how to do is create bad habits. Falsify logs to save minuscule minutes so that $0.35 will add up another $50 for the week, never do any inspection on your truck or trailers because it's not yours and wastes time mentality, drive recklessly because anything less than 65mph is going to somehow ruin your paycheck.

As an O/O, how well you can back or claiming you can drive 40 hours straight with no stopping but to use the bathroom has nothing to do with your odds of success. You have to already be a successful person to be a successful O/O. If you can't manage your life at where you are at now, being an O/O is nothing going to be the miracle that saves you.
