    Hi,

I am currently living in North Carolina but plan to move to Rapid City, South Dakota in a few months. I am thinking of a change of careers when I move and looking into Trucking full time. I already have my CDL but it has been almost a year since I drove and that was just my driving test when I got my CDL from the truck school I went to. At the time I thought I would be going into trucking sooner but ended up getting another job at the time. I am still at the other job but need to move to Rapid City, South Dakota and am thinking going into trucking would be a way to get a job there fairly easily. Anyway, on to my questions (and thanks in advance for any answers):

    (1) I could not tell from the website but can someone tell me if Central refrigerated will hire me if I live in Rapid City, South Dakota.
    (2) I have looked at other companies and they have some 14/7 options available meaning drive 14 days, then home 7 days. Does Central Refrigerated have a schedule such as this or something similar.
    (3) If I could in fact get a 14/7 schedule or similar such that I would be driving about 21 days every 28 how much money could I expect to make realistically with central refrigerated?
    (4) It seems from the website that Central refrigerated really pushes leases after you have been with them 6 months. Is this the case and if so is there anyone that has leased through them and can you relate the experience?
    (5) Should have asked this first but would Central Refrigerated be willing to hire me without a refresher course or would I need to get a refresher course before starting with them?

Thanks in advance. I'm sure I'll have some other questions but look forward to insight anyone may have.

Central hometime is minimum 9 days out, then one day off for every 7 out, max 4 consecutive. In any new-driver company working only 2/3 of the time is going to put a real damper on your check. I wouldn't expect over 24k/yr with that schedule and no experience. As far as a refresher, I think (but could be wrong) that if you got your CDL more than 90 days ago with no driving in between most places will make you take a refresher. CDL training is more or less a primer for the real training that you get on the road, and you dont want to be relearning basic driving skills at the same time the rest of it gets thrown at you.

As far as leasing is concerned, those who like hometime need not apply. I'm a l/o, and I go home once every 3 months for 5 days. You can go home more often, but it costs me $117/day to sit at home (and I have low fixed costs compared to most central l/o's) so I'd rather keep rolling and make money.

    Truckermania Thanks this.
