I'm thinking about starting with Con-way and have a few questions:

    1) What is the pay like? Cents per mile? Average gross pay for company driver?
    2) Do the trucks have APU's and allow inverters?
    3) What do you like most about Con-way?
    4) What is your biggest complaint?
    5) Do you really get to run all 48 states?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

    Stagnant

was 37-42 for experienced. Not sure what cpm they start students at

According to their recruitment website ( http://true2blue.com/student-drivers/ ), $39,421/year for students and $50,988 for experienced ( http://true2blue.com/company-drivers/ ). I believe those to be accurate.

They all have inverters and bunk heaters, but no APUs. You're not supposed to idle between 20F and 70F though there was no shutdown timer or thermostat on my truck.

It is the best large carrier out there

Operations is content with trucks averaging 2500 miles/week.

Con-way runs 49 + Canada. In my 18 months there I went to all but:

    US:
    Alaska
    Maine

    Canada:
    Yukon
    Northwest Territories
    Nunavut
    Newfoundland and Labrador
    Nova Scotia

I did talk to a driver in Taylor who claimed to have gone everywhere but Nunavut.

    New trucks every 3-4 years
well equipped (trolley valves, brake application gauges, load gauges, XM radio, bunk heaters, inverters, your name on door, etc)
Well maintained, especially in Joplin with its in-house shop and 4-lane inspection bay
hand-wash truck washes in Joplin & Laredo (blue beacon truck washes when over the road for more than 1 month)
    reimbursed showers, parking, tolls, etc
    EZ-pass & pike-pass in every truck
good company CSA scores keeps those EZpass lights green
fairly high camaraderie among employees (be prepared to wave at every other con-way driver you see)
fuel at pretty much any pilot/flying J you choose -- scale whenever you want using that same fuel card
Drive whichever route you think is best
Shut down whenever you feel it isnt safe to drive -- no pressure from dispatch
Detention paid regardless of whether conway can collect it from shipper/broker
    etc

Good to hear Conway has good equipment. And the fact they don't pressure you to run tired is huge. That is a big worry of mine after reading horror stories on here. I've been thinking about Prime as well. But they have those tiny lightweight trucks though. They do pay more. 41 cents per mile after you are done with training. Lots to think about!

I suspect Conway to raise pay a couple pennies & incorporate a fuel bonus similar to prime.

They've been focusing on ways to combat idling since last summer.

Expect a clone of Crete's current pay.

    Certainly.

I'll HAVE to purchase one if they do that bonus.
(And drop $50 cash in the tanks) <<<<company drivers of month do this.

Conway will put it on for a small fee.

At current pay scale not one drop of sweat will form on this forehead during my 10 hr break!!!

Gives me another tax write off to add on so sooner they implement the better.

Just looked at crete's website. Pay for students after training is 34 or 35 cents. Experienced is 43-46 cents. Looks like all trucks have apu's too. Doesnt look like they hire from my school though.

Id be embarrassed pulling Crete trailers.

Most valuable resource sits 53 ft ahead.
    Satisfied driver ahoy!

    Ack!

I had one of the never settle for less trl with the ppls faces on the side.

    Felt like a tool.

Sad thing is its a new paint job and it said -CFI on it!

    Wtf? Lol.
