    Supply and demand plays a role in nearly everything. That is why some non union LTL’s pay less in rural areas than in the big cities. Some say they pay what the local competitors pay and that is true in extremely hot job markets.

    UPS paid $32 8 years ago. They are bumping $40 now, OT after 8 hours.

    If you are choosey you can get paid overtime after 8 hours in a day, have weekends off, a regular schedule, or much more. The problem comes when a driver feels entitled to the best fringe benefits but settles for some entry-level or bottom-feeder company, or determines no matter what they are staying in one location that died years ago or is 9 hours from any population center, etc. and blames the govt for not making every company treat drivers like the best companies.
    If someone doesn't care enough about the work conditions to pick better is it fair put the govt in charge of their problems? The govt buying $600 hammers and spending millions to find out if ####roaches prefer hip-hop or country music while they eat is not going to fix anything.

    Because no one is going to have any money.... all those people laid off and almost none of them have money in the bank......

    Be as choosey as you want, if it’s not available it’s not available. Jobs like that used to be plentiful, but things have changed. I’ve had a job that paid ot after 8, 26 yrs ago. Used to work 60 hrs in 4 days, paid 72 hrs. Been a Teamster since 1987, back then the writing was on the wall.Been running my own Authority since 2004, I thinknI know a little bit about the Industry. I doubt Trucking has the type of hours and pay he’s looking for, as far as anyone blaming the Government, no ones to blame but the Drivers themselves. Even the so called good jobs haven’t kept up with wages. Hourly job has to have it available, to make a decent check. After 40 or after 8, really didn’t matter, unless you worked less than 8 hrs one day, and over 8 another. The over 40 hr law is easily circumvented by Trucking Companies. That’s wrong.

    Lots of companies have already implemented hiring freezes. They have sent drivers home empty with no return date. Open deck companies are struggling. I live near a bunch of Maverick drivers and they have a hiring freeze and plenty of guys sitting home . The future loooks real rough.
