There will always be something else it'll be handy to have when you're broke down on the side of the road! -
An 8' ladder works fine. To get on top, you place the ladder on your catwalk. Easy to store also.
Ford L8000 Thanks this. -
True, I realize that Murphy's law applies to trucking just as much as it does in the Army lol
I'm planning on going to work for TMC, and at that time, will see what truck specific things I may or may not need. -
I carry a little giant type ladder that extends to 15 or 16 feet if I remember right. I would not be without it. I store it on too of one of my tool boxes. I got it at Menard's for around $100.

That's not a bad price at all, the one I was just looking at on home depot's website collapses to a pretty small size and it was $94.00.

What makes you believe your be driving a flatbed and working at TMC? Please do not tell me it's because you have a pre-hire letter. I think you should wait and buy your needs when you actually need them.

If you've got the money, I'd recommend one of those "versa-ladders" or whatever the hell they're called... they can be used as a 14" straight ladder, an a-frame ladder, etc. I had one and it was great... it was greater than greater.. it was fantastic... it was more than fantastic.. it was fantastical. Yeah, that's what it was.
Bit on the pricey side... around $250, IIRC.... but very versatile, very adaptive. Great ladder.
