No pre-hire letter from TMC or anything, it's just where I plan on working. Even if I don't end up at TMC, I plan on doing flatbed. I'm getting these things so I can be prepared before hand and not having to spend a lot of money on it when I actually start truck driving.
Thinking about purchasing a 22ft ladder

I am not sure TMC will let you even have a ladder. Might want to check with them first.

I strongly believe the OP is doing a disservice to himself by taking the Military Experience-CDL Road Test Exemption. One would limit ones self to AUTO-Only Truck outfits as todays military vehicles are AUTO and pulling mostly 40 flatbeds, OP might have the approach/angles down for backing a shorter trailer, not all animals are the same. My advice....Don't Take A Pass, grab that bull by the horns. Good Luck !

I'm not completely set on using my military experience to get my CDL, going to ask my Texas DMV if I would be limited to autos. If that is the case, I'll go the trucking school route, don't want to shoot myself in the foot by having the auto restriction.

Thanks, I'm just wanting to get things now that will make my life easier out on the road. I do agree that you have to show whatever company that you are an asset to their company. I've been planning this career change for quite a few months, and want all my ducks in a row so it will be a seamless transition from the Army to truck driving.

I use my ladder all the time. Just this afternoon, I had to tarp a 6 ft high load of moulding at a place with no tarp station.
I don't know how these guys get by without one.
22 ft is way overkill, though.
I started out with one of those folding/telescoping ones you can buy at Wal Mart... 15 footer. When it fell off my deck and got ran over one too many times, I replaced it with a 17 ft one.
I found 15 ft to be just a little too short for things I need to do. 17 ft seems to be perfect so far. -
Thanks, will be going with a shorter ladder probably around 16 to 17 feet. I agree with not knowing how someone goes about tarping a load without one, especially if there are no tarp stations. Plus being only 5'6" I need all the help I can get lol

That's what I'm going to go with is truck driving school, don't want to take the chance on having the auto restriction put on my CDL.
