I'm talk to a recruiter from swift the other day a told her I was going to an outside school to get my start since the school was VA approved and she didn't say anything to me about not taking me all see said was I that they weren't hiring for flatbed in my area and I would have to be van fleet and would be out 2 weeks for two days home. I want flatbed work but I may have to settle for van. I live in Lexington, KY. I already tried TMC but they won't hire me but from the threads I've been reading about them that might be the best thing since it sounds like they're having money problems ex. not getting their trucks washed every week and not being able to use blue beacon when they do get them washed and having to pay for tolls out of drivers pocket and then they have to fill out forms for remburisment. Sounds like money problems to me I hope not for the sake of the drivers they employ but it don't look good to me. Sorry I got off subject but hope it answers your question.

    Hey Jim,

I can tell you that Swift will look at graduates from other Schools. I graduated from Advanced School in Fontana and will be going to Swift's orientation on 1/19. Hopefully by the end of the week I will have a new job.

    Jimbo60 Thanks this.

Hey Jim, cant confirm this but I seriously doubt it, that would mostly meen hiring new trainee's I would believe.. If you took your cdl license from a outside school that would only meen you would bypass the 2 week cdl training and just be placed with a mentor. Maybe others on here might have the answer but your BEST shot is to call a recruiter and see what they say or if you have inside connections with swift ask them.

Now....it dont matter which company you go with, any big company will do this, but...Expect a dirty, nasty, lived in truck. They're suppppposed to be cleaned out and very nicely detailed by the shop between drivers (itll look brand new, they have really cool chemicals), but a lot of times they forget or you'll be told to pick up an abandoned truck, or one from a drop yard, and drop yard pickups are always filthy. The good thing is that when you get one that hasnt been detailed, sometimes theres extras in there that you will want to keep....

Hell, when i picked up my werner truck (drop yard in OKC), they left a DRIVER in it. Ok, she was at home, but she had been told to clean it out and left all her stuff in it, truck unlocked, and keys with her. she got all mad at me because i got in the truck (it was unlocked, was told it was MY truck), and claimed i stole things. she's now been fired for totalling a brand new daycab.

    Thanks for the replies.

I've tried getting through to a Swift recruiter a couple of times but always end up getting sent to someone's filled voice mail box

    Jim,
I went to an outside cdl school and start orientation on 1/19. I would have to say the rumor at hand is largely false. But it could also be due to your location and where you would attend orientation. They do this at several locations across the country, so it could possibly be that the location closest to you is only taking those who need schooling.

Ahhh.... that makes sense. Like I said I haven't been able to get a hold of a recruiter to confirm or deny.

I'm going to be starting school on 2/1 and as I have this thing about not being in debt for anything to any company....... and Swift is on my short list of 5 companies, It did make me wonder if they were still gonna be on the list.

    Thanks.

    ............ Jim

well.. for right now swift along with werner and schneider are the top 3 companys I want to work for as soon as I graduate from the CDL school in florida. Schneider and Swift are tied for the #1 slot. I hear alot of good and bad things about Swift but I have been told by old timer truckers to choose Schneider. Problem is I live in south florida.. Swift will hire me with help from my school her in florida by my school does not have many connections with schneider.. we will see..

My understanding is that Schneider is still not taking anyone without 2 years experience. They use to hire and train but changed in late 2008.
