To be quite frank, no matter which company you go with, now is not a very good time to get into trucking.
It is better than nothing, I suppose, but i wouldn't stay gone for what drivers are making now. It's cut-throat, companies are doing anything and everything just to stay afloat, which means nickle and diming the drivers, taking away certain privileges, and cutting rates.
The rate cutting is a problem, since the only way to make a decent check with TMC unless you're 'long haul' is by being paid a percentage of the load, i think that being on percentage when i was with them was probably the only thing that saved me. I could haul 3 loads and still bring home 800 bucks as long as the loads i hauled paid well, most of them from what i'm hearing right now aren't since companies are fighting over the limited amount of freight that's out there, just to keep the trucks loaded and running.
Just my 2 cents, i won't be going back to trucking, going to enjoy some time off and get back into school. Good luck with whatever you chose, i will say that if your choice is definitely between TMC, and Werner, DEFINITELY go with TMC, but don't let them push you around, either.

I agree it's a bad time to get into trucking. Rates are at an all time low and freight is very hard to come by it's like this anywhere you go

How does tmc treat their students after they finish truck driving school.

I thought about joining tmc after i left ****** and pulling box trailers (and this was before the economy tanked) but the recruiter i spoke with reminded me of a snake oil salesman.

You will be treated like ### for the 12 days of orientation but after that it depends on your trainer. My trainer was really easy to get along with. Once you are in your own truck you are a number. It takes time to develop a relationship with your FM, they have 30+ drivers and not nearly enough time to talk with them and get to know them in any kind of reasonable time frame. If you don't mind being on your own you will for the most part be left alone. Orientation on the other hand is crap, run by idiots who treat everyone like crap. Pillsbury George I'm talking to you #######.

I finished school in May.I am also thinking about TMC.I live in Indianapolis. It sounds like where i live i would have a pretty good chance of getting home often.I also sounds like with TMC if i bust my butt and do my job i probably will not have any problems with them as a company. How steady is the work for TMC right now? A s far a myself getting started in over the road driving.Flatbed seems to be a good place to start.I have been a city driver for DHL for 11 years.Got laid off, time to move on.
