I worked for US Foods in New Hampshire a couple of years ago.
I actually liked this company and, no kidding, I was grossing around $1800.00 every week.
I was in my mid fifties and the work is hard but not as hard as some people like to claim that it is.
I had no problems with the workload and there were guys older than I was still working there.
I quit for some personal reasons and I would go back in a heartbeat if they were hiring in my area ( I now live in North Carolina).
I’m pushing 60 now and I still would not have any problems with moving boxes with a two wheeler down that ramp; even stairs inside the restaraunt wouldn’t be a problem; and I certainly don’t claim to be anything special; just another average shmooo.
US Foods is, in my opinion, is one of the better trucking jobs out there.Midwest Kid, Brettj3876, authentic251 and 3 others Thank this. -
Again 4 day work day with actual "day time" hours not 9am to 9pm... I'll take 4-4 every day of the week. I have looked into p&d and he have had a lot of guys leave and go to that but I just cant justify that sort of pay cut right now. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with ltl it's a great career but I will say that food service is what you make of it and it's a good way to make a living and support your family.Brettj3876 Thanks this.

Yeah, I've got it pretty good. I work nights doing mostly key drops (my choice) and usually don't get close to 40 hrs a week I'm not in it for the money anymore. My wife has a good job and I'm just ticking off the days until I'm 62 and can bail with a full pension. I did the 70 hr a week deal for a lot of years when I needed the money but I want to be somewhat able to enjoy retirement My answer to OP was more from the standpoint of someone just starting out. Every trucking company in this area seems to be begging for drivers. Wasn't the case when I got on at Sysco I'm not going to give up having 120 guys under me and six weeks vacation now. Besides, I gain about 10 pounds for every week I'm on vacation. I'd be big as a house in a yearBrettj3876 Thanks this.

I'm not in that position yet but after 5 years I'm number 7 out of 18 and I'm number 4 on the route board so it's hard to think about starting over when I have a pretty good deal seniority wise. All of the guys above have at least 15 years in and are looking at the end so its easier to stay cause I know I'll keep moving up. That being said I'm putting a crap load in my 401k and my end plan is quiting when my body tells me and getting a easier job for my last couple of years before retirement.

Number one guy here is at 43 years and still pushing a two wheeler. He's made of better stuff than me. You're right, though, most of the time your body makes the call before time doesBrettj3876 and Cardfan89 Thank this.

Our top guy is at 43 years but just runs shuttles now we have a couple of 30 year guys running hospital routes with minimal two wheeling.

Hospitals are good Got a couple of them two nights a week. 600-800 cases with a hand jack Can't beat itCardfan89 Thanks this.

My initial plan was to get a year in and apply for Sysco. But the US Foods house in my area only requires 3 months experience.
Should I wait for Sysco or go to US Foods sooner?
Wherever I go I'm staying for the long haul. Need to make some better money than beer! -
Both jobs are the same basically US seems to be kind of sketchy as far as the future. Sysco tried buying them a couple of years ago but the government shut that down. They were owned by a investment group that was draining the company dry. Don't know what the situation is now. They are going good in my area. Same as Sysco, constantly hiringlocalguy65 Thanks this.
