4mer trucker pretty much saying what should have been said in the first place.
Nothing wrong with going the training Co route, I started with Prime flatbed myself because no local or small would touch me wo 2 yrs. this sub forum actually suggested Prime to me. what a difference 2 years makes. that said I wouldn't go back after getting a taste of the small fleets.
Thinking change of pace

I had 2 offers, western express with training and a small 20 truck outfit that drove me down to Lubbock and dropped me off at the truck. I chose the latter. Most of my tricky loads came long after any training period would end. The securement manual, green book, YouTube, ttr, and fellow drivers will get you through it better then any training out there. Make friends with drivers on here and get someone's number. They can help you out in a pinch with solid advice. I'll even offer mine up if you need it.
I've worked for a mega and 2 small companies. I would never want to do otr with a mega again. I'm not 2 I don't need my hand held. I found my current gig on Craigslist and they have plenty of upsides to go with their down sides.
Oh and if you want to see some bad securement look through my posts. I've shared a few mistakes to learn and for others to learn from.4mer trucker, TripleSix and MJ1657 Thank this. -
To dumb it down for those who have reading comprehension issues (problems reading) @MJ1657 and @TripleSix are saying mega carrier flatbed companies will not teach you how to secure every load. They will teach you the basics wjich can be learned via youtube or the flatbed forum, and the handy securement book.
2 years of driving experoence qualifies the op for a lot of smaller better carriers that don't advertise because they don't have a need to. We are telling the op to seek out some local companies that will provide a better overall experience.cnsper, johndeere4020, 4mer trucker and 2 others Thank this. -
Thanks for the post, prime example of what we were talking about.johndeere4020, 4mer trucker, MJ1657 and 1 other person Thank this.

If I may add a tidbit of wisdom here, this is worth bearing in mind.
The "easy to get into" companies, like and including the one I mentioned, frequently advertise. Now, there's usually a reason for that.
I believe what @MJ1657 and @TripleSix are trying to get at is that it's the places that DON'T advertise that are where you want to be. -
Sort of Mack...OP is looking to get into open deck work. He's an experienced driver. Theres absolutely no reason at all for an experienced driver to take a step backwards into an entry level company and ride with a trainer AGAIN. I recommended ATS for 48 states qnd everyone knows they advertise. The reason why I recommended them is because they will put him in a truck if he can pass their tie down test. And WE, the Cool Kids, can get him passed. That's only if he is set on running all 48 though. He will have to be able to go to Canada to be a company driver. If not keen on the 48, look to more regional outfits.
With any of the companies that dont hire rookies, they give you a written ssecurement test and take you out to their yard to see what you got. Thats all it is to it.MJ1657, johndeere4020 and MACK E-6 Thank this.
