well it's like this.....trucking pays a pretty good salary if you work for it, as no one is just going to hand over the money.....

there aren't too many jobs that pay the same...now yes, there are jobs that pay more, sure, but some of those jobs require trade, or technical schooling and some people just do not have it in them to sit in a classroom for 1 or 2 years....

there are those people that have shall i say, not enough brain power to conjour up to apply themselves to detailed oriented work. so trucking is an easier occupation as not too much brain power is needed and when you get to talk with some truckers at the truck stops or on the loading docks, you too will see this.

diesel fuel or trucking gets into our bodies, our blood streams because by its very nature its a lazy person's job, i mean after all the US Government for the longest time has called it an "unskilled career".....

if a person were to say earn $45,000 per year and be able to provide for the family and still have money left over to save or invest, then as a trucker he/she is doing good....

but now, remove that trucker and place him/her in a factory job, a mechanics job, carpentry, etc, etc, and the pay scale may drop if he needs to buy tools/equipment, or the salary WILL NOT BE as high as in trucking, and one has to start all over again at the bottom...

trucking can afford a comfortable lifestyle, but NOT a rich one by any means....trucking wears you down like no other job can. trucking causes many health issues like perhaps no other industry, trucking can be many times a job of many or great inconveniences....

one of the perhaps main reasons so many truckers are "always trying to get out" is because there just isn't anything that can come close to the laziness of the job for the money earned.....otherwise, if a trucker wasn't truly lazy, he'd be out in 1 year or less, and by golly, some "newbies" jump off this sinking ship with in that time.....truly the smarter ones......

    Foodstamp,

I agree with you, there is much benefit to keeping my current job when I enjoy what I do and can make a decent living. And while it is hard to risk something new, start at the bottom and make sacrifices...I am still considering it, whether it is with trucking or not. I am a professional driver either way for now and I have earned the respect of my employer and something most drivers in this industry rarely have, 2 specific days off in a row. That is huge when one can be getting up at 2am for a job or coming home at 3 am from a job and having no set schedule for anything else. I am very fortunate in many ways and I do not take that lightly. I've had my share of working for crap companies in different industries.

It may be possible that I am a restless soul, which is why driving suits me lol. But I do not want to be afraid of risks either (after careful deliberation of their costs). I am scared to limit myself in just one area, having no health benefits/401k from the job, and as a woman in my early 40's, being physically able to lift a slew of 60 pound suitcases on a daily basis for airport runs in my 50's. It is a lot of physical labor which I can do at the moment. Sigh I don't know. There are no guarantees in life anyhow.

    Zuma,

I've read your edited response lol. You're a winner in my book, keep doing what you are doing and I hope you have much success!
