The company isn’t concerned about this...but it definitely feels like more than one inch of play.

road rescue said DONT worry about it...

Can tell exactly nothing with your video, you have to watch the pitman arm, not go by how far you can turn it.

This is going to be a long year.

Don't they train the free wheel play limits anymore at the steering wheel inside the cab?

    Sounds about right...

Go to a truck dealer and try it on any NEW truck for a surprise

Am I missing something here? I thought you tested play with the engine off so you’re not getting fooled by the power steering assist. Someone reply maybe I’ve been doing it wrong this whole time.

Sit in cab engine off, try to move steering wheel. It should only do a little bit of movement. Not very much at all.

Nothing making too much noises while doing it either. Drive off.

Even with the engine off, you can be moving the pitman arm, even more so if you are using the steering wheel.
Move the steering shaft back and forth while watching the pitman arm, the free play is only how much it moves before the pitman arm starts to move even a minute amount. If you can detect any movement at all on the pitman arm, you are past the point of freeplay.

Did a DOT inspector find that or did you call out road service yourself?

Wow I learned a lot from this thread!

Yes that’s how they taught us to check the play! No truck at school ever did that! But then again those trucks were garbage!

thanks for the lesson guys you rock!

truckdriver31, FlaSwampRat and x1Heavy Thank this.
