Got a 15 sp in my w9 thats got 900k on tranny with whining going on in far left gears, alot louder when loaded, other than that no issues, yet....got a price for a reman 18 sp with 1 yr warranty for $4500 plus 800 for install. They are taking my 15 for core which i was surprised they did.
Is 900k at the top side for longevity?
really dont want the thing going out while on the road, but not sure if im being to premature yanking it out yet, btw my tranny temp never gets over 120
gonna pull a oil sample this weekend to see if theirs high wear metals goin on
any thoughts appreciated
This good price for 18sp?

If you like your 15 why not have it rebuilt?

My RTO 16710B has over a million and when I last had it out everything was tighter than a nun's ____ and it doesn't sound loud. All I did was replace O-ring at top of tower and input shaft which was worn at the pilot bearing.
Your whining could be the shift lever/tower needing attention.SHC Thanks this. -
Is that tighter than a frog's ___?
How about a bull's ___ in fly season?Ruthless and losttrucker Thank this. -
I just replaced my tranny 2 months ago and price I got for a remanufactured 18sp was $4500 BUT came with a 2 year warranty. PowerTrain in Indianapolis, Indiana.

I just pulled my 15sp with 1.55 million on it. $4500 is the going price for a 18sp. $800 is a decent price on install if the fluids are included. You'll have 200 in synthetic fluid. You can usually get one put in a 379 for $500 without fluids around here. $2750 for a reman 15sp.

Huuricane how u like the 18 compared to the 15?
I actually dont mind the 15, im more wanting the 18 to stay in the sweet spot a bit better with not as much rpm range between gears.
If i was gonna get rid of truck i prob wouldnt put it in but with 1.8 mill on er and all the work ive done to get it set up good ill keep it another 1.8m. -
I put a 15 back in. The 18 would be nice but I'm thinking once Haney bumps up the HP it will be a non issue.

I replaced my 15 with 2.7 million. With a brand new 13 (non reman) for 4200$ and no core charge at all. Sold my 15 for 800$ private. There are good deals out there I bought the trans from eaton. Had it built new you just need to wait for them to run a special. The new 13 has less rpm drop btw shifts and I've saved 4/10 mpg with low enertia and closer shifts. 3406b motor

Good to know largecar
If i want to stay in the 1450 rpm in 14th im running at 52 mph, 15th at 1450 im at 64mph, very annoying beings i drive alot of 2 lanes that are 55mph.
Uhhh what to do, pay the $ to yank it before i need to or wait.
If i was sure i could get more mpg out of it i would, right now i either run higher rpms that is needed to run or the big hole at 60 and when loaded it lugs not enough torque
