This guy swerved. What would you do?

About 2 weeks ago some clown must of fell asleep on the road or something and when you've got one lane going each way there's not alot of room to maneuver and get out of the road, which is what I had to do at the last second was swerve off the road to avoid hitting this driver who'd finally woken up and fortunately swerved back onto his side of the road again, I thought for sure something was going to happen to my back trailer as I was towing a double fortunately I got back on the road with a large cloud of dust behind me the only evidence anything actually took place. In the long run evasive action saved me having to do a pile of paper work.

danm. Had a couple of sleep walking pedestrians walk out in front of me a couple weeks ago. Fortunately I had another lane to go to.

 

don't swerve for animals. Brake as much as you safely can but you risk rolling, jack-knifing, or worse with aggressive steering. You don't want to destroy a $150k truck to save 400 ponds of meat.

 

I would swerve in that situation.

A moose is officially known as a LARGE animal. Centering up and taking the hit in a pickup truck pulling a trailer? No thanks. Especially when there was adequate time to smoothly get over and back.

Even if you are driving a big rig with a "hamburger helper" in front of your grill, a moose will be a messy hit.

 

If I can safely swerve, I will, but, sometimes you have no choice but hold your lane and take the hit.. 1 time I hit a moose: it dented up the front of the truck badly and ripped open my radiator...

 

A moose can easily weight 1200 pounds. If I'm in a pickup, I am going to swerve if I'm going faster than 45 mph and can't stop. If you hit it, you're risking a totaled truck and possibly death, not to mention you would really piss off the moose.

I don't care what you are driving, if you can go around a moose, go around. I swerve for them several times a year. A full grown moose can and proves it all the time, total a semi, even with a moose goose.

 

Squaring up wasn't an option for that guy. The moose started charging and would have run into the side of the pick up if both stayed on the path they were on. Staying in control at the point likely wouldn't have been possible.

We had a bad one last summer when someone hit a moose and ended up in the oncoming lane.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a southbound vehicle struck a moose then crossed into the northbound lane colliding with a northbound vehicle. The northbound vehicle carried five familial occupants, all of which were transported to hospital with serious injuries. Two of the five occupants have since passed away. Two occupants in the southbound vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene, while the other two occupants were also transported to hospital with serious injuries.

roll down the window and yell at the stupid SOB to get the #### outta my way, of course.!
