This is not a driver lounge... move on.

Truck drivers as a group, aren't highly sensitive to talking too loud, talking too long, cursing, or 3 drivers having 5 simultaneous conversations at increasing volume. The sign indicates to me there was a high prevalence of HIGH VOLUME TRUCK DRIVING STORIES AT THAT LOCATION AND NOBODY PICKED UP ON THE 18 HINTS GIVEN TO MOVE ALONG. We can get insulted that property owners think we are going to litter or damage their property and pretend almost none of us do that. Yet, there is hardly a spot where I see a truck parked or a driver loitering where I don't notice the usual evidence of the trucking "lifestyle" seeping into normal life.

For all of the complaining I;ve heard from drivers about the dispatcher hiding behind some locked window or door between drivers and dispatchers, I've also noticed that many or most drivers sound like they would try to assault a dispatcher from time to time, myself included.

Instead of trying to use the Jesse Jackson techniques of shaming and intimidating people when they react to the negative truck driver stereotype, use that energy to help a driver not demonstrate those negative behaviors. Rather than complaining to Wal Mart that the "no trucks" sign is unfair, don't ever, ever, ever litter, even a cigarette butt or p-bottle.

Instead of giving the "if you have it a trucker brought it" speech for the 809th time today, keep and eye open during your next trucker reunion and try to keep the noise down and maneuver people away from natural chokepoints like doors and stairs. Suggest everyone move to a more suitable location. Some drivers never notice that a whole bunch of non-drivers don't really want to hear the story you've told 50 times per week since 1989 about some cop *demanding* you run over a car that's parked illegally.

    That's funny right there.

I've big-brothered a fellow driver or two when I've seen negative behavior... doesn't always go well, and I actually try to be eloquent.

Sounds to me like the just got sick of some of the less than desirable inhabitants of some trucks raising hell while business was trying to be conducted.

I have the same dress code as you though, if it isn't starched, it isn't worth wearing :).

tscottme nailed it. No one puts up signs like that, or of any kind, unless there has been a problem, or they are trying to prevent a problem. Most likely a few "professionals" hanging around, telling stories, BS'ing with the office people, etc. The same "professionals" that park in the NO PARKING areas at truckstops, block the fuel islands, etc.....

    Klingon Thanks this.
