I share your sentiment. But look at the bigger picture. This has far out reaching implications,.. and its only getting worse. Far worse than DUI/DWI ever was. Educating people about the consequences isnt working.

What else would you suggest? I cant think of anything other than to deny people the ability to harm themselves and the danger they pose for others.

If anyone else can come up with a solution, I would love to hear about it.

Educating people doesn't stop people from drinking and driving, going out on boats without lifevests or driving unbelted.

You shouldn't take away from others because people are stupid. We suffer enough because of stupid people.

 

Then what do we do,.. continue to watch the aftermath? I feel doing nothing only contributes to the problem. I hate losing my freedoms and liberties as much as the next guy. But not being able to text in a moving vehicle is not the end of the world. I managed to survive for many years with out a cel phone and did just fine. I think people will learn to adapt and there will probably no doubt be hacks to make the phones do what they want anyway.

Make it a mandatory felony to be in an accident caused by cel phone use? Will people stop it then?

I spent quite a bit of time over in Italy about 7 years ago . It is illegal for anyone driving anything over there to talk on a phone , texting there they would burn you.

i love the idiots walking down the street texting meanwhile a car almost ran over them.

 

A lot of things are different regarding driving and road etiquette over in europe. I've driven in Germany and France and its night and day different. Round abouts actually work over there,.. we lack the courtesy for other drivers here.

DUI in Germany is a big no no. Just to get a drivers license there is hard enough,.. but to lose it over drinking and driving would be next to impossible to get it back,.. thats for the 1st offense. And yeah,.. no cel phone use period while driving. Yet,.. just like here,.. I saw people doing it anyway. Though not as much.

My wife and I want to go back and spend a year in Italy, just being tourists.

Let Darwin weed out the stupid. If some dumb teenage girl offs herself texting by hitting me head on in my truck, I won't lose any sleep over it, I'll just be annoyed at the inconvenience of having to piss test because of it and move into a new truck.

 

my ex gf was from milan italy in fact i am chatting with her right now.She loves to travel and dragged me all over northern italy on the numerous times we were over there in our 3 month stints. Cool but i think it is way overrated

 

Being a father with 3 kids myself,.. 2 grown and 3rd lives with an ex,.. I can not help but want to protect my kids from harming themselves and/or harming someone else. The fatherly protective instinct wont allow me to allow darwinism to claim my kids,.. as stupid as they can be at times. Fact is I would lose a lot of sleep over it.

I have kids myself but short of locking my princesses up in a tower like Rapunzel, you can only do so much.

 

My wife is Greek and she has a lot of family there. I've been there twice with her,.. love it. She's been to Italy and says Greece is much like southern Italy. We like to go off the beaten path when we explore. We do the motorcycle tourist thing when there. She has a Can Am Spyder and I have a Triumph Thruxton with side car. Both are still in Greece now.
