Maybe but it's not just about being stopped in the road. Apparently there are many flagrant log violations and falsifications going back many hours and many days. It's this "reckless behavior" that put him in that situation.

FMCSA in coordination with local prosecutors will always use such incidents as "examples" to try and make an impression on others that follow.

People forget it's not an accident, it's a criminal act once he goes over the HOS. The bus driver was wrong for speeding and running into back of truck but he's dead. So you can't do anything to him for his part of the accident. Now the drive of the truck will have to answer for his part of the criminal act he did.

True. Still, I'm thinking more along the lines of a high dollar fine and a couple years. They can put the dead bus driver's face on the front page. That's what they want--someone to blame.

Quite right. They'd have prove/show premeditation.

Regardless it serves as a good reminder to watch oneself out here. Politics and money rule this industry.

Isn’t it illegal to sit on the freeway right in a lane stopped while you are sleeping? It’s not like that bus was following too closely. I read another story on this. He had been sitting in traffic earlier but fell asleep at the wheel while others moved on he sat asleep. He created a huge danger.

Dang-thats ashame. This just the first story i read on it.
    Huge danger is right.
I take it the bus driver-maybe -thought the truck was moving? Was this day or night?
Even if the driver had a heart attack n was slumped over the wheel-shouldnt something be said about the dude who rear-ended such?

I read that everyone on the road was stopped and waiting for state patrol to open the freeway again. The driver was stopped too. But when it came time to roll, he remained in the road sleeping and still parked. Nobody woke him up. Later traffic was back to normal speed and he was still sitting there asleep. A bus traveling 74mph hit him. Later it was determined he had 20 different HOS violations. He possibly hadn’t slept in 24 hours and was cheating his log book.
