It's just politics, plain and simple. He should've been penalized for his role, but to totally ruin his life for a few log violations when the bus driver was the one obviously to blame is grossly unjust.

Didn't the original story say a cop stopped traffic for road construction , why didn't that cop notice a truck stopped in lane 3 .
    But this is California
    They basically hate trucks

I agree, he could've had a medical emergency and everyone would've just kept driving. MF'ers (Me First). The log violations really irritate me, no doubt he should be charged because of that. A lot of us understand that a "violation" is looking for parking or trying to get to parking because of a negligent shipper or receiver. But, driving blatantly in the wrong with total disregard for the motoring public to benefit your wallet or personal agenda is criminal negligence at it's best. 55 or 76 that driver is still dead along with the innocent victims on that bus, he and others paid the ultimate price. ATA and other special interest won and are going to continue to win big business regulations because of neanderthals like this. I give a warning to all drivers, O/O's, and small fleet owners, clean up your acts. It's only going to keep getting worse, the industry is it's own worst enemy.

Simply math can show that. Miles driven in a certain time frame, correlated with time stamps of receipts, BOL's, and phone records.

So the ELD is going to wake drivers up and tell them to move when they're parked on an Interstate? Cool, I want one of those!

The ELD will help show what the driver is really doing. Hopefully the driver would run legal and never be so tired he can sleep just from waiting for construction.

I get why some people dont get why this guy is going to jail. To me it is wrong as heck. He was asleep and parked. Yes he abused his HOS. Tho the question in my mind is. Was the officer talking to the truck driver when the bus impacted into the truck? Seems to me if this is the case then the CHiP Should be taking some of the blame as they were keeping the truck stationary.

    nax and Dharok Thank this.
