I carry an engine swap receipt in my 2003 truck.
In my 2000 there is a sticker on the door jam that truck was built in 99.
In your case I would have a dealer print the engine info and carry it in the truck. It just will make things easier next time

Was that the engine that came in the truck new, or is it a glider? Just curious as I have a 2000 KW that came with a 6NZ built on 12/23/1999.JolliRoger Thanks this.

The truck had a Caterpillar 6NZ., but would you believe the build date was 01/01/2000?JolliRoger and Oxbow Thank this.

Not to rain on your parade, as I feel anyone who can legally avoid ELDs should, but the guidance is model year, not build year. C15 was not a 1999 model year engine.
If the truck originally had an EPA98 engine in it, then you could switch to an ELD exempt EPA98 MY engine without it being a glider. The engine manufacturers did a huge run of 2002 engines so most 2003 and some 2004 trucks had pre-egr engines installed at the factory.JolliRoger and Oxbow Thank this. -
Makes no difference to me as I am exempt otherwise, but I sure thought that the date of manufacture was the basis rather than the model year.
-
FMCSA guidance says the engine needs to predate model year 2000
Lonesome and JolliRoger Thank this. -
what year is your truck? He probably should have known it was a glider if it was anything built within the past decade.
-
Does your vin have GGGG in it?
That would seem to be all he would need if he did a simple google search. -
Veiled threat is toothless. You're doing it right. Cops will make up all sorts of things on the spot and when they get called out on it don't do anything because there's nothing they can do. Most people don't call them out. They might run you through the wringer looking for other things so I guess we're supposed to be like "ohhhh that's scary!" or something lolLong FLD Thanks this.

Just comes down to what your time is worth. Is it worth it to save 30-45 minutes and carry some documentation in your permit book? For me it would be.
