got in on an interesting thread in the truckstop forum. on the merits/woes of the "reserved" parking now ongoing at the TA/Petro. Let's say you have an OD load. End of the day. You try to find a spot in the TS, but all that is left is the "reserved" spaces. Do you take one? If so, do you feel obligated to pay for it?

My thoughts are: I park, pay for a shower, pay for a meal, and probably get a snacky cake and a movie. Did I just pay for my parking? I know the "higher ups" say to "plan your trip accordingly" so you get a spot, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way (traffic, weather..ect) and you drive till it's dark. And since no one has come out with an app or text alert to let me know when I'm driving as to the parking situation where I'm heading and how many spaces will be available, and the TS I'm heading for has made 1/5 of their lot into "reserved" spaces, what do you think? I,ve had to park on the fuel island before...no fun.

So my fellow OD guys...what are your thoughts?

You have to remember that they are private property, so they can do whatever they like. In fact, we are lucky they DON'T charge us for parking everywhere and just overcharge us on everything else. Because as a driver, you have no other choice really, so you'd have to pay....

on to your topic now: That OD load you are pulling should be paying well enough for you to fork out the $ for the parking spot. I don't see why it should be an issue. I have yet to need to use one of those spots, but it the day comes, I'll gladly pay for a parking place. I'd rather pay for that spot, than to "make" a spot somewhere only to have somebody hit the load. That isn't going to end well, and you will have wished you'd have just paid.

And it pays enough for tolls, but you won't see me being so anxious to shell out for those as well. just wondering where it ends? how much more can they drain out of us? glad to be getting out of this in 4-5 years....counting the days.

if its marked as reserve spot and payment is required above and beyond buying fuel etc. to do otherwise would be dishonest . no matter how you justify it. especially for od guys this deal from t/a takes away the worry of finding spaces late in the day for an o/d load.

why would this be no different than going in , eating the buffet, and walking out without paying???? think about it

it's different in that they don't offer 3/4 of the buffet for free until it's all gone, then you have to pay for the other 1/4 if you want something to eat

If I need the toll road, I will pay for the toll road. If I need TWO reserved spots, I will pay for 2 reserved spots. When I go into a restaurant, I am going to tip the waitress.

I am not parking on the fuel island, I am not going to steal a parking spot that may be reserved for another driver, I am not going to stiff a waitress to save a couple bucks. Only scum would behave like that. I wish the TA's and Petros would charge money for parking like they use to. Kept all the undesirables and cheap bastages out of the truckstops.

Guess I am not one of your fellow OD guys.

so....you pull into a TS with an OD load, it's dark, and there's no parking. Anywhere. Reserved spaces are already reserved. You're going to pull back out on to the highway and keep going. Right. Let me know how that goes for ya. I had to park on the fuel island once cause they were doing repairs to half the lot and I didn't have a choice. Proud to be scum :salute:

and apparently you are scum, by your own admission no less. by the way the t/a petro has an app where you can call and find available reserved spots and reserve them several days in advance. and I get parked before dark when I have an od load, just like that load last I reserved a spot in Roanoke and Binghamton,ny went without a hitch . you must be a urine poor planner.
