Sorry I disagree.....
The purpose of installing thread tape is opposite of the thread direction so it doesn't come unraveled while installing the fitting. -
Think about what you just said ,if you wrap it to the left and screw it to the right it unwinds
-
Both, tape then schmear some on top.
I glide 47 Thanks this. -
I neglected to say "with thread to your left."
I just visualized that but I guess I didn't state it.I glide 47 Thanks this. -
its perfectly fine on brake parts. ITs not fine when you have an idiot that over tapes over the hole and debris get blown out into the lines. Even s, the tiny piece of shrapnel will not harm anything in the system. It would take alot of little tape shrapnel. So if you arent a sloppy mechanic and runs the thread properly, you wont have shrpnel in the path. The air lines are under pressure, so obviously it wont suck the tape though from the threads.jamespmack Thanks this.

That is how dad taught me as wellGoodysnap Thanks this.

Just remember if it is comfortable and convenient. Your rolling it the wrong way.
Anytime someone asked were my dope was, I would scream "get out my tool box, non of your GD business". -
I use Permatex thread sealant with ptf on everything I assemble in the marine world.
It locks the threads and also prevents seizing.jamespmack Thanks this. -
Glad to hear that I'm not alone in preferring the tape.
Back story to my starting this forum, I ran out of my roll of tape after the parts houses closed, but wanted to get the project done so I resorted to the dope. 12 years or so ago when I started really pulling wrenches on these things I had something I did not work out for me with the dope, and have hated it ever since. I then spent a few hours upset that I had ran out of my tape, and thought I'd come on here and run it by you guys for your thoughts and opinions! Thankfully that newfangled paste held for me this time!Chubby Fly Thanks this.
