You can thank Swift and the rest of the "We'll pay for your CDL training" Carriers/schools for that situation. Can you say "lowest common denominator"?

    See above.

They don't...these new rigs tell the driver what to do.

Well you can take the Scum out of the Scum Park or wherever they crawled out of but you can't take...well, you know the rest.

That's just not in the truck stops and not only truckers. Can someone explain why a certain group stands on the seat to do their buiness and misses... all of the time?

Well that load was supposed be there yesterday but, "Super Trucker" was up all night at the arcade or watching Pr0n..what do you expect them to do? No woman with any sense would show any interest unless she was a "fire plug" with T*tz.

It's up to the smart drivers to breed out the idiots.

Good to hear more of the real truth be told. The future scum using trucking as a last resort were looking down on me for telling it as it is. Just too much trash in this business and we dont need more people who dont care about this job.

I'm sure all these guys are correct, but if you're in it for the long haul...just be prepared. Not everyone is made to be a trucker and it is a much different way of life than most people will ever see. Some bad and some good. I have been working in the auto industry for over 25 years and that has gotten so bad that it's a joke. I've been wanting to get on the road for so long now...I now have my chance and am going to make the best of it. If you find a good company then maybe you'll have a chance to make it....It's a big commitment. What kills me is that there are people who think they can do this job,but can't even find 3rd gear in any of my school's trucks....:biggrin_25510:

same ole' reply here DONT GET IN TO TRUCKING FOR "JUST A JOB" you will hate life and wont last long. you have to love it to do it. not saying you wont love it but just know you will be gone all the time, not really make what you are worth and have to put up with alot of crap. Think long and hard before you just jump in this industry it is not for all......and i feel for you I drive in the oilfield right now and am down to 20hrs a week. Wish you the best and hope it works out

When we truckers really think we have it bad we need to stop and think of our millitary....we don't really have it that bad...we may be gone a month at a time...may get treated like crap sometimes by customers and the companies we work for....but at least we stand a #### good chance of making it home to our families and not gone for over a year with out seeing them....I thank each and every veteran in this country from the bottom of my heart for the sacrifices that they make for all of our freedoms

With your financial situation and military experience....have you considered re-enlisting? Your first year running OTR will be risky. If you cleared $15,000 from it, after expenses, you would be doing good.

There is also a serious risk of losing your family. Numbers don't lie, and there is a very high percentage of divorces in this job. Especially in the first year. I ran a dedicated route in Alaska when I first married. Was home every other night. Ex was OK with that. When we came down here, she decided she wanted something different 9 months into our first year. Why? I was just gone. Maybe a weekend home a month. I even tried flying her and my son out to be with me a number of times. It is just hard. Not for every wife.

I re-married and now have another set of kids. But I got smart this time, moved dear mom into our home to "help out" with the kids. Perfect. Trust me, she tells me everything....

I am 41, already separated and absolutely will not become a WORLD POLICEMAN again !!!!
I love the country that was left to me by our founders, but what it is becoming ( people and this ###### goverment ) I would not lift a finger to protect!!!!! Unless the CHICOMS were on our boader I could care less. YES I am cynical but for good reason. The construction industry has been impacted by our GOVT looking the other way when it comes to boarder jumpers. I THINK that is part of the cause of diminished wages in this country! Now the same GOVT is going to tax me more to support those that do nothing! !!!!!!!!!!!! ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All I want to do is see the Pacific NW. I have 2 dogs that, as far as I am concerned are my only family, and no one else. But I dont need to go broke or treated like a junk yard dog either. Good pay for hard work, seems to be an atiquated concept these days.
If I did not have so much self respect and resolve I think I would become a sorry ( get a check from uncle sam ) schmuck too!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if people realize this but the divorce rate in the military is very high as well.

The Pacific Northwest is absolutely Beautiful. I've lived here for 14 years. But I have to go now. It's just too expensive to live here.
