Company driver. I never answered broker calls or texts. they can talk to my dispatcher, who knows my ETA. I had enough professional liars in my life, not one more was needed.
hope not dumb twucker, TripleSix and RockinChair Thank this. -
Voicemail is the key…..I screen everything…if your caller ID isn’t a name in my contacts…you go to voicemail The key is your message…be courteous, professional and with something they can’t dispute
Mine basically says
Sorry I can’t answer the phone…I’m driving at this time and I’m sure you’ll agree
Talking on the phone while driving is an unsafe practice
I’ll return your call at my next scheduled rest stop
Thank you for your understanding
Have a blessed day
Go ahead argue with that mister pita broker

I never deal with a bunch of calls either.
If you dont trust me to get the load delivered as agreed, then dont give me the load. Thats pretty simple and straight forward.
If we have an agreement, and something goes haywire, then I'll call you. If you have a question about how the load is going... just ask yourself one question: "Have I heard from Grumppy?" If not, then you know everything is ok and I am on schedule.
Otherwise, I'll contact you appropriately when its delivered and the paperwork is signed.

Speed_Drums and ‘Olhand Thank this. -
As a company driver I was never called by brokers or customers, except one time with a high value load when I skipped a fuel stop because it diverted me 20 miles off the route when I didn't need fuel. The monitoring company called me, and they were ballistic.
The only time i had problems with phone calls was when I was helping out a Walmart DC account.
The load assignment gave a pickup time of 0300, which I planned for.
I get a call at around 2345 and the guy tells me the load is ready to pick up. Very irritating since it interrupted my sleep.
It happened again the next night, and then I went ballistic yelling at them that if they EVER called me and woke me up again I would not do another load for them.
According to them, their regular drivers were apparently waiting up at those times just waiting for a call that the load was ready, while I was asleep planning for my actual scheduled pickup time. To them it was all about getting it there as early as possible, and to me it is all about picking up and delivering at the appointed times. But they got the message and didn't bother me after that. -
